Josh Hamilton talks 'makeover'

Texas Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton said Wednesday that he's committed to figuring out why he had another alcohol relapse and is undergoing what he called a "Josh Hamilton makeover."

Hamilton appeared on "Glenn Beck" on GBTV.com with guest host Dr. James Robison, Hamilton's pastor with LIFE Outreach, a Christian ministry based in Euless, Texas.

The slugger, who told Robison he's going to "one-on-one" counseling sessions, said when he had his last relapse, in January 2009 in Tempe, Ariz., that he thought things would be fine and that he'd get on with his life. *snip*

On Wednesday, in his first one-on-one interview since the incident occurred, Hamilton didn't get into specifics, saying only that he's committed to becoming a better husband and father. He said he's "excited" by his progression in the time since the incident occurred, adding that there's been more "meaningful" communication in his house the past few weeks than there had been the previous eight years.

"So much good work has been done," Hamilton said. "My wife is already saying: 'Who are you?' Not that I was a bad person before, but the communication wasn't there. It was easy for me to retreat and shut down completely when I got home. I battled it.

"I was looking at my girls and thinking how beautiful they are and how much I love them, but it wouldn't come out. I was looking at my wife and thinking that she's awesome and I love her so much and she's so beautiful and it wouldn't come out. But it comes out to everybody else -- strangers on the street, people at the ballpark, people on my team."

Hamilton said he's working on "digging deeper" and is using his faith to try to do that. *snip*

You cannot fault this guy for being so open with his problems. So many others hide them. Kudos to him for realizing that if his home life/family is not in order, ain't nothin' gonna be in order!

Men, talk to your wives!

Ive been sober for over 23 years through the grace of God and the fellowship of AA. What Josh Hamilton has to realize is that he drank because HE WANTED TO! There is no excuse, no family problems, no crisis. Josh needs to KNOW that its the first drink that gets you drunk. Stay away from that first one and you won’t drink. That’s a guarantee! May God bless him.

This fascination with Hamilton’s sobriety is disgusting. The media just need to leave him alone. Can you imagine the crap Babe Ruth would have endured if this type of media were around in his day?
