Brokered means that big power brokers would give their blocks of delegates to a candidate in exchange for something of value to them.

Which is exactly what would happen.

Who just blew away the enthusiasm of the crowds more than all of the current candidates combine this past Saturday? Plus even the NYT said last fall that her anti-crony capitalism/ corruption message is a new winner that brings independents, conservatives and even some traditional democrats together - she can speak that with authority and authenticy

...after the first ballot, delegates are free to vote for whomever they want.

It is my understanding that many of the delegates are Ron Paul supporters - this was a strategy that the Ron Paul campaign considered. IOW, a second ballot would see a large increase in support for Ron Paul.
