Ellensburg is cattle/wheat country...they do have a big rodeo every year....

but Ellensburg is also known for its unique "Ellensburg Blue" gemstone found in the area, and only in the area.....it's discovered by farmers as they till their fields and I understand it can be quite lucrative....supposed to be one of the hardest stones next to diamonds...

No wheat to speak of in the Ellensburg/Kittitas valley but plenty in southeastern WA and the Palouse area.
