Who knows?

Anyway its a TV show. Ever wondered how much these people are paid to appear on the show? I think its MORE than the amount they are fighting over.

The very first comment on the video would have answered your question.. @cme98 because in the beginning she said she quit and when Judy asked her if she had a lawsuit against the doctor it was because she was suing him for wrongful termination which means her whole story was a lie. shumid07 4 days ago 27

This is pretty old. I saw the episode and I don’t watch it much. I think they like replaying it. It is a fun video and was shocking at the end. I was glad!

I believe the participants have to agree to drop any lawsuits pertaining to the case in order to be on the program!!

At 16 minutes and 34 seconds the judge says QUOTE Miss Owens, I'm dismissing your case. I'm going to tell you why I am dismissing your case. ... Miss Owens, your case is dismissed. That's all. UNQUOTE And then the Bailiff instructs the defendant and the plaintiff, QUOTE The parties are excused you may step out. UNQUOTE

The Judge had clearly dismissed the case and court proceedings were now over. The judge stood up to leave the courtroom.

The paintiff McDaniels proceeded to leave the courtroom and was walking down the aisleway to leave the courtroom. The judge then shouted from a standing position after dismissing the case and ordering the clearing of the courtroom, QUOTE Oh by the way, one more question. Over here. Do you have a lawsuit ? UNQUOTE

IMO, the plaintiff McDaniels should have kept walking because the case had already been dismissed and the judge had already ordered the courtroom to be cleared.

No judge can bring a courtroom back into session and the proceedings restarted again as an afterthought. As I already said, the judge had already dismissed the case and had already ordered the courtroom cleared. Those are the facts.

The judge had absolutely NO BUSINESS in penalising the plaintiff after the court had already been dismissed and the courtroom already ordered to be cleared. IMO, the after court ruling of $5000.00 had absolutely NO BASIS in law.

I think they can get away with based on the fact (I believe) that the show actually pays any fines and penalties incurred. In other words, it's a show hearing with no financial repercussions to anyone involved which is the only reason anyone ever chooses to go on the show.

I don’t get the ending. On a note not related, the defendant is chubby, but has a very pretty face.

I couldn’t get any sound. I checked my speakers and they are working just fine. It doesn’t look like anyone else had this problem, though.

“The award limit on Judge Judy, as on most “syndi-court” shows (and most small claims courts in the U.S.), is $5,000. The award for each judgment is paid by the producers of the show, from a fund reserved for the purpose.

Both the plaintiff and the defendant receive $100 for their appearance as well as $35 a day, paid to them by the show. The litigants’ stay lasts for the number of days that the show does taping for that week, which is two or three days.[citation needed] In addition, the airfare (or other means of travel) and hotel expenses of the litigants and their witnesses are covered by the show.”

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judge_Judy

In the early days of “The Peoples Court” I read that the $5000 was also a pool. If the judgment was less than that then both sides evenly split the remaining money out of the $5000. I later read that most court shows did the same. IIRC Judge Judy also did that.

Judge Judy’s show doesn’t pool the money, but some other court shows do. Reports are that that some get paid even before she rules. I realize these are just the opinions and rantings ( the site and the Star article ) of a couple of people but they are food for thought.

http://www.judgejudyisascam.com/

As of 2010 it was reported that she makes 45 million a year.

I don't think strict legal rules are in play..its Judge Judy's court and she can do or undo whatever she wants...

besides...I don't think any of the contestants pay anything...I think its a pool of money and if you win your case, you get MORE money than the other guy....anyway, thats what I think happens...

As a layperson I thought it may have struck her at the last minute that in fact there was no police report and the defendants wish to sue would be aided by a dismissal.

Do we know she was suing the doctor for wrongful termination or just assuming that was what the doctor's lawsuit was about?

I did seem to hear the plantiff at the end shout to the judge that the photos the defendant had brought with her had already been introduced in court, making one wonder if this was the doctor's lawsuit?
