I have heard that it was said that the British and the Hessians feared the Culpepers. I also heard that the Culpepers were the only militia to never turn tail and run in battle.

A wag of the times said that this was too severe for him, but that he would enlist if they could change the motto to "Liberty or be Crippled.. I did not know Mark Twain was alive then!
