Exactly. You know, it’s funny how the culture has changed since I was a kid. I know almost no one, outside of show people, who don’t spay/neuter their dog or cat. Few people want to live with an unaltered animal. Things have changed a lot in the past 30 years.

I remember we had a female barn cat when we growing up. We always had kittens to give away.
A lot of folks would let their intack male dogs wonder and do what dogs do best.

Now, we raise beagals that my wife shows at AKC dog shows.
We are shipping one bitch on Friday to NC to breed with one of our friends stud dogs. It will cost us between $800 to $1000(Delta airlines ,stud fee, vet ,shots)to have this litter assuming she deliveres them the old fasion way and not a c-section($750-1500). We will need to sell one to two puppies just to break even. We have had litters that we have lost money on. People do not have any idea how much work it is to breed dogs and do it right. It is a labor of love. We raise them in our home. They are handled by us everyday since they are born. They are never afrais of people. This is why our dogs are worth more than a dog that you buy in a pet shop. Are dogs will never end up in a shelter.

Most dogs that end up in animal shelters are bought at pet shops or are mutts that were the result of an accidental breeding. This is a fact that PETA and HSUS will never tell you. Many of these dogs have behavioral problems. They come from large commercial breeding companies that operate mostly in Ark. and Mo. These are the companies that supply pet shops. Very few come with an AKC registry. Most have UKC registration.
Pet shops tend to sell to people who are impulse buyers. We get calls and emails from peolpe like this all the time just prior to Christmas. They buy the cute little puppy and then get rid of it 9 months later when its a dog.
