Watch out, Sheriff Joe!
I recall reading about that vote— extending the Homeland Security bill passed in the Senate a few months back.
My reading on it was somewhat hurried, but one commentator noted that the “indefinite extension” provisions applied specifically to individuals associated with the events of 9-ll and the parties responsible.
In other words, it was pretty well limited to a specific group of terrorists of a specific event, not a broad and general designation.
On the other hand, the decision announced by the administration (last year, or two years ago? ) to strike the word Islamist or Muslim from any reference to terrorism (arguing that it was defamatory or prejudiced or some such) was ominous.
Maybe somebody with a better grasp on this can fill in here.
