These are the snowy owls attracting quite a crowd of onlookers across America as an unbelievable mass migration continues to grow. Bird enthusiasts are reporting rising numbers of the Arctic birds winging into the lower 48 states this winter in a mass southern migration. Some states as far south as Texas are reporting sightings of the bird that is as white as the driven snow.

Both whatbird.com and owlpages confirm what I thought: it is the FEMALE hoots that are lower-pitched. But both sexes also vocalize in other ways too, such as grunts.
Thoroughly confused yet? Ha ha!
Maybe it is those west coast owls who are the ones that are confused ; )
Regardless, I am excited to know who is out there, and that we have at least one pair. I also have seen in the past few weeks, (THREE times!) a bald eagle! Truly an awe inspiring sight.
