Which carrier? What type of plane? What did the censor white out? Extra credit – which destroyer is trailing?

Assuming that it is a actual WW-II photo and not from a prewar training exercise, the carrier is the USS Lexington CV-2, a Douglas SBD Dauntless, the censored areas are most likely radar and radio equipment.

The Sartoga in Februaru of 42 was laid up after stopping a Jap torpedo opn January 11, 1942:-(

No clue on the DD, Yet :-)

Here's an uncensored picture of the Saratoga from 1942, for comparison.

For thread-bumping purposes only, here is a picture of the destroyer, USS Leonard F. Mason (DD-852) about the time my Dad served on it. (This photo is from "early post war", so he may actually have been on board when the photo was snapped.) Dear old Dad "owned a plank" as an original crew member of the Mason under Captain Sidney D. B. Merrill (who died only 2 years ago in January 2010 at the age of 95). Dad was very proud of his Navy service and kept a picture of the Mason on his bureau his entire life. The Mason gained some fame for exploits during Vietnam and for retrieving early astronauts from the ocean. She was later sold to the Taiwan Navy and after service there, was deliberately sunk to help build a reef.
