Thanks for the ping. I wouldn’t have remembered that it started tonight. I am looking forward to fresh faces and no redemption island. Does this mean that there will be reward challenges?? Yay!
I’ll be parked in front of the TV come 8:00PM.
It always takes me a couple episodes to sort out who’s who and what they’re up to.
Well, that was interesting.
Colton can’t even make a good girl. That ID you were given was a one shot deal that will save you at the first TC - then you’re toast.
Both tribes have settled into Tit-for-tat with no organization or planning.
Girls - you steal fire and let it go out. Errrrrrr.
Immunity challenge winner: Manono
Manono Tribe (orange buffs): Bill, Colton, Greg, Jay, Jonas, Leif, Matt, Michael, Troy
Salani Tribe (blue buffs): Alicia, Chelsea, Christina, Kat, Kim, Monica, Nina, Sabrina
Eliminated: Kourtney
Immunity Idol status - Manono: Nobody has found a clue or an idol.
Immunity Idol status - Salani: Sabrina found an idol.

Colton... oh, my. Words fail. He's either an early boot or he'll end up being kept around as the goat for the finals.
Unless they get their act together quickly, the girls will be going to TC every week. They're Pagonging themselves. Sad to admit, but it's typical young immature female behavior with these 20-somethings. Make a tribe of older women and you wouldn't have this but then Mark wouldn't get the boob ogling viewers so that’d never happen.
The guys have too much testosterone to keep their egos in check. After a few days of high fives over dissing the girls, they'll get bored and then it'll be alpha he-man muscle against alpha he-man muscle. Boys learn at an early age to be team players so that will help them early on but it may not last with these guys. Their early pecking order will be based on bicep size.
Correction
I dozed off and missed something.
Immunity Idol status - Salani: Sabrina found an idol. She subsequently gave the idol to Colton.
I noticed the girls all had matching blue totes. What’s the purpose of this? The camera showed one of them (Sabrina?) looking in one a while as if checking to make sure it was hers. Is this new or have I missed the “official tote” in past seasons? I can see how these might bring on confrontations if someone mistook someone else’s for their own but is there some production reason for them?
I don't know.
This was the most boring first episode I’ve seen in a long time.
I was not bored but I absolutely cringe at Coulton. His flamer behavior makes me just sort of tolerate through the show, waiting for him to get out.
Other than him, I am rooting for the men. They are much more canny.
‘Stealing’ during the free-for-all at the truck: fine. There were no rules, and it was every man for himself.
Cheating after making an agreement about chicken catching: wrong. I lost respect for the women on that.
Then the stupid behavior as they tried one thing after another to get fire: embarrassing.
So, go Manono.
There's two ways to adapt to it. One, you can skip the whole early game and go for all merge strategy. Kinda a very bad idea, on the whole though - you've got 8 other people you're not really looking forward to working with who are going to determine your fate for the next few weeks, and you're working with the nine who have no say in that.
The other strategy is to view the second team as a resource to plunder as much as possible. From stealing during the looting of the truck to breaking deals on chickens, both teams are using each other to a point. Kudos to the men for getting SOMETHING for their fire, mostly because the would be Prometheus couldn't be bothered to feed the fire all night. But with the option of squandering resources to protect that fire, they got at least something in the bargain.
I don't know what Jeff was thinking even tossing out the option for continuing the challenge. ‘Men won...but they COULD decide to keep on going and waive the requirement that the other team field 9 players...’ Really? I COULD get immunity, or I could GAMBLE with that immunity and possibly lose it, and get mocked by Jeff Probst for the rest of my life for doing it.
That was a real setup, and while I don't mind Jeff's setups in tribal council, doing it at a challenge just seems wrong. Good on the guys for having the sense to resist the temptation to gamble with the immunity and kept it. It kept the other team (for a little while at least) from getting their own source of fire, and it made sense.
Though wow, Jeff at Tribal was.. Is he sick of the game by this point? He really had the knives out, digging into the contestants, and that's not as typical for the first tribal council. Worse, he admonishments are things that are usually reserved for tribes which are trying to annihilate themselves, not those who lost their first challenge because some idiot didn't want to follow directions.
And bonehead award goes to...Sabrina. A swing vote during the merge is great, but a swinger at the start? Who cares. Useless trash that won't make it to the midgame. You just know that Colton’s going to go wave it around the camp fire at the first opportunity (probably while the women are away on their first tribal, in response to some ‘attack’ he feels under...) and then it'll be a one two out for old Colton.
Great positive, finding the immunity idol without clues, and without being found out by your tribe, great negative giving it to someone who's going to blather his mouth, who is already on the outs with his tribe, and won't be around to help you come the merge. If it was 4-4 with Colton as a swing, then give the immunity to the weaker team of four - they'll axe out the strong guy, making the women's team stronger, and Colton will still be around to swing about come the merge.
Byebye, Colton. Have fun going down the Hatch.
“........You just know that Coltons going to go wave it around the camp fire at the first opportunity (probably while the women are away on their first tribal, in response to some attack he feels under...) and then it’ll be a one two out for old Colton.........”
In the previews Colton is seen waving it around while at the fire at night.
This now becomes “how smart are the 4 & 4 at the 1st Tribal his team goes to?” A majority has to vote for Colton to flush or remove the Idol. But somebody else has to have a few votes thrown their way.
Worst case - 4 vote for one of the other four - same for the other four - and Colton gets wind and does not play the Idol. Many other variations possible.
I see the girls’ team being pared down more than the men’s and then a school yard pick for new teams. Who appear a lot of old hate on the new teams.
I hope it is indeed bye-bye Colton, he makes me rather loathe to watch any more.
As for having all of them camping on the same beach, it is interested, but, more of a “Big Brother” or whatever that show is model, rather than a survivor model. I am always more interested in how they deal with various survival issues, and as I’ve complained before, that has become less and less of a factor.
Obviously the weather is balmy. They get basic foodstuffs. I am not desiring to watch “the Hunger Games” and see people suffer, but, I like the emergence of savvy and disciplined people who can figure out how to survive better.
Older games included people making fire from their eyeglasses, finding water, utilizing coconut water, using assorted supplies creatively etc. I am also annoyed at how they apparently get to shave and all that, that is an obvious bow to convention and takes the reality out of the equation.

Agreed the early seasons were much better. I enjoyed the savvy and skills of surviving rather than it merely being based on challenges.
Jeff - no woman watching is rooting for the girls’ team... it’s like talking to 6th graders... worse team ever.
He nailed it. Then they went and voted out Nina and kept Kat who not just lost the challenge but FATALLY lost it big time. Bringing in Colton would be a team improvement.
Sorry, Colton, but the second after you play that idol you’re done.
Ick, barf. Men, please, put on some pants!!!! That also goes for whatever gal who has half her behind hanging out.
“.........Sorry, Colton, but the second after you play that idol youre done.........”
There may be more to Colton than the edit is giving him credit for.
The edit shows him not helping and sitting around - or running over to the girls.
He IDed the 4 & 4 - broke out the HII when the other 4 were asleep and has a plan - part of which was shown last night.
Now if his four vote with him - and he is sure they will - then there is no need to play it.
I’ll bet Colton at least makes the Tribe shake up - maybe not the merge - but at least the shake up.
Mark does enjoy playing with the editing so who knows. It would be a brillant move to boot the muscle threats right out of the gate since it’s obvious they aren’t needed to win against the girls. That shot of Colton swinging on his own little island was priceless, lol.
