Word For The Day, Monday, 1/30/12
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
redound; verb [used without object]
1. to have a good or bad effect or result, as to the advantage or disadvantage of a person or thing. 2. to result or accrue, as to a person. 3. to come back or reflect upon a person as to honor or disgrace (usually followed by on or upon ).
Etymology: 1382, "to overflow," from O.Fr. redonder "overflow, abound" (12c.), from L. redundare "to overflow" (see redundant). Meaning "to flow or go back" (to a place or person) is from 1382; hence "to rebound" (c.1500), and "to contribute to" (the credit, honor, etc.), c.1500.
example: Thomas Hobbes Leviathan: "So that the effect which redounds to one man, by another man's defect of right, is but so much diminution of impediments to the use of his own right original."
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....
Yeah well we will be going to the Newman Center or whatever they call the University Catholic center there, for Mass.
A+++ for Herr KLINK!!
to this day I cringe when I see John Bolton on my tv........when he endorsed Romney I was in shock. I muted my tv and read some of whatever book I was reading. Even today when he appeared on my tv I turned away.
Michelle is very logical and methodical in her assessment....just like the day I stood next to her at CPAC, I stand with her. If Santorum is still standing at the end, I will be pleased.
yep
I have ZERO problem with principled conservatives endorsing Romney. They did the calculus and their conclusion is he is the only one who can win. Whether that is true or not is immaterial, i think it’s their right to reach whatever conclusion they have. To me, it’s just ludicrous to ;align someone’s conservative credentials over a difference in opinion. It comes down to pragmatists v. idealogues and i am a pragmatist to my core. I am not supporting Romney, but i will not condemn anyone who does.
Like XS, I am watching this recall and fear the worst - I hate liberals winning anything because they usually cheat. I want to thank you and your husband for all you are doing - and for the updates as well - As you know, all we get from the liberal media is doom and gloom so we wouldn’t even know the effort being put out by you all!
Since Romney is hardly conservative to his core, I find supporting him a sellout. Can’t help it, it’s a core reaction.
that’s exactly what xshub said! his friend said one jagoff there had signed the recall petition 80 times. RME.
I really think there should be a penalty for that! They are lying, signing their name to a lie and causing more work or possibly a line to voter fraud. I had a republican friend (at least she claimed) who voted for bammy because “it was time to elect a black man” who argued with me that filling out 25 or more voter registration cards was not illegal or wrong. She said it was not voter fraud because they hadn’t voted 25 times. Semantics -
The “i’m more conservative than you are” BS i have seen on FR makes me puke. This is war, everyone knows it, and who anyone chooses to lead them, based on their perception of the likelihood of victory is one i refuse to second guess, because the stakes are so high.
i totally agree!
What’s with the extraneous semicolon?
it was a typo, you pedantic jagoff ; ) MALIGN.
Not that one. The one in your original post. After the image for wftd. I let it slide last week.
I have now. Caught the second half of that movie the other day.
still not seeing it, so you are likely to continue to have to rail about it, since i can’t even find it to correct it. u r the princess with the dang pea, ya jagoff ; )
have you ever seen Cape Fear? xshub was watching it again last night. It’s one of his fave movies of all time. I’d say they are: It’s a Wonderful Life, Scarface and Cape Fear. I wonder what this says about him! i’d seen it before but had to leave to go up to bed, bc it was bothering me too much.
