He tried to saddle the Hypophora, but it kept biting him in the end.

Thomas statement on White House absence
Bruins goaltender Tim Thomas released the following statement Monday evening regarding his absence from the Bruins’ visit to the White House this afternoon:
“I believe the Federal government has grown out of control, threatening the Rights, Liberties, and Property of the People.
This is being done at the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial level. This is in direct opposition to the Constitution and the Founding Fathers vision for the Federal government.
Because I believe this, today I exercised my right as a Free Citizen, and did not visit the White House. This was not about politics or party, as in my opinion both parties are responsible for the situation we are in as a country. This was about a choice I had to make as an INDIVIDUAL.

A famous example of Hypophora in public discourse is Martin Luther King's "I have a Dream" speech, August 28, 1963:
" When will you be satisfied?"
We can never be satisfied as long as the Negro is the victim of the unspeakable horrors of police brutality. We can never be satisfied as long as our bodies, heavy with the fatigue of travel, cannot gain lodging in the motels of the highways and the hotels of the cities. We cannot be satisfied as long as a Negro in Mississippi cannot vote and a Negro in New York believes he has nothing for which to vote. No, no, we are not satisfied and we will not be satisfied until justice rolls down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream."
Contrast his eloquence against the halting, bumbling, ineffective oration of the Kenyan-in-Chief when not aided by teleprompter.

as i said when i posted about it on yesterday's thread, i LOVE tim thomas for this. xshub said if he knew he was going to do it, he would have bought a tim thomas jersey when he was in boston last week. our entire family are now huge fans. Caps play the Bruins tonight and i hope he's in goal, bc xsteen and her friend Tim are going to the game and she's so excited to see him.

Are you talkin’ to me?
Well, you must be talkin’ to me because I don’t see anyone else around here.
‘Scuse me. I’m walkin’ here.

I support his decision, although I think the Demos bear the the lion's share of the responsibility for our present parlous situation. If I had the opportunity to visit the White House, I would also decline, stating that I am waiting for its return to American hands.

apparently he’s also a Glenn Beck listener/fan, so that was just an attempt at being evenhanded, i think he’s also of the opinion that the Dems are the worst of the two. He’s taken a fair amount of crap in the twitter and hockey worlds in the past day for this.

Do I hate this method of speech? Yes, I hate when someone poses a question then answers it themselves.

We’ve been Timmy fans since he was chosen for the US Olympic team, when you saw the real joy and pride in his face. As Sean would say, he’s a great American.

How about John Kerry’s black eyes? Do you buy the “playing hockey” excuse?

always liked him, but now i LUUUUUV him! took real courage to that that stand. At least one of the local hockey bloggers said he respected him for it. Most of the rest are making me puke with acting like it was so controversial, when if anyone had boycotted the Bush WH, they would have been designated as heroes.

I think he’s had more work done - broken nose and two black eyes from early in Jan? His previous excuse for his chin “correction” was hockey... lol
