that’s a lovely story! i love that idea! my niece is a librarian. She got her degree last May and when she and her husband were down visiting, she wanted to go tour the Library of Congress, so we did that. it was fascinating. She’d mentioned the philosophical discussions in her Masters program about the ebook v. paper book and how it would affect their field. very interesting.
Hopefully Fab Melo is not THAT essential to the team. xshub thinks that he won’t play again and will instead opt for the NBA. They had 20 in a row, it was only logical that they’d lose sometime. they got it over with against Notre Dame, so hopefully now they are prepared to dig in and win again.
Ain’t nothing saying ol’ Mitt was capable of winning either.
I was in the car a lot this weekend, our talk radio station was rerunning one of Laura Ingraham’s radio shows and she had Jonah Goldberg on. I had to agree with what he was saying. He can’t understand why Mitt can’t muster some dang passion for his positions. Says he sounds like he is reciting canned lines that he has memorized. No passion, no speeches from the heart. Newt and Rick both are capable of passion, and Newt is parlaying it to the top. He thought Mitt was just incapable of it. That voters want a fighter.
After the example I posted exposing that theO did indeed campaign dirty and attacked Hillary’s character, he will go even harder to protect his White House gig. After all, MO isn’t gonna give up those vacations, so he’s gotta make it happen....on our dime.
oh believe me, i know. it’s a very close case, which is why the hope has to be, a la NEO, a brokered convention.
Newt has titanium balls and will take on Obama, but will the media even report his debate floggings of Obams accruately, will the populace even be aware that he won? will that be enough? Will women overcome their nausea at his serial philandering and vote for him, when that will be played up in spades? Fat Newt with his freightcar of baggage and plasticine wife up against the lithe [albeit femmy] basketball playing Obams and his youthful family. Will that play to the populace? is there enough rage against Obama that the rank and file will vote ABO?
If mitt has any prayer, he has to grow a set and fast, he has to go balls to the wall against Newt to prove to the republican electorate that he will take it to the Obams hard. Because that’s the fear that he will cave like McCain. I have no idea if he’s capable of that or not.
I read an article about his philandering over the weekend. Part of it pointed out that in the eyes of the Catholic church he has had only one marriage, the one with Callista. The marriage with the teacher who seduced him was tainted and would have been annulled. The marriage with the second bimbo was not valid as she was married before her marriage to him. I found it interesting. And that deathbed conversation he had with his first wife, she is still alive and well. Lots of bad info out there, sifting through it is a full time job.
thanks, i will look for it. i am telling you, you should read the Hunger Games. Whyisa, Explorer89, Hobbes1 and i all enjoyed it, thoroughly. xsteen just finished the triology and loved it. And many of my other real life friends are thanking me for the recommendation. Pay no attention to the middle school designation, it’s a page-turner trilogy that totally sucks you in.
This campaign has to be about issues, not personalities.
That way, if the voters really choose more Obamanomics, we are at least sure that it was the message that lost.
I don’t know who would be “brokered” into a nomination and have zero hopes that such a thing will happen.
Let’s make our case with passion.
I’ve had similar discussions with my son-in-law who is a college text book publisher. He does not feel threatened yet. He says that the e books will take over when his son and friends (now an 18 year old college freshmen) are adults calling the shots in the business world. That is hard to imagine, frankly.
I am not into e books, myself. I spend too much time at the computer already, and I relish curling up with a good book. If it is a fine edition, the feel of the binding and the pages are delicious on their own, no matter what is written on them. Many editions, nowadays, contain beautiful pictures that just can’t be duplicated on a little computer screen.
But, I have too many books, and my mother is worse. I am going to have to dispose of her collection someday, and I dread it. I’ll hear her voice nagging me about every volumne that I discard.
I have it on my list. I have been putting it off till I wasn’t sick, now with this dang bladder infection...I may not EVER be healthy again. It’s ticking me off. Someone said it’s a tough start in the first book, and that it was a bit of a downer. Is that true? If so, I will wait till I am more upbeat.
Oh, so you are the Giants fan. I wondered who liked them. ;^)
My husband watched the games yesterday, while I went to a movie and dinner with my son. At the restaurant the entire crew, even the cooks in the kitchen were watching the game. NY state has no one else to root for, we are all reduced to cheering the Giants along.
the eyes of the Church, maybe. The eyes of God? I doubt He is going to parse away the infidelity inherent in Newt’s behavior, and if voters choose to, then i guess BJ’s aren’t sex either.
I don't know what your article said, but that is not exactly right. The Catholic Church considers Protestant marriages valid if they are with Baptized Christians and married acccording to Protestant rules. So, if later, a new partner (who is Catholic) wants to marry a divorced man, he must seek an annulment from his earlier (Protestant) marriage and make his case before the Tribunal and get those marriage(s) nullified. This is a lengthy process that could take a couple of years. Witnesses must testify that knew the couple before and after the marriage. Families must testify.
This happened to some people I know, and the family of the woman was highly connected within the church: thus they had all the resources to get an annulment. It surprised me too. The couple cancelled their church wedding and got married elsewhere.
I don't know what is in Newt's heart, so I can't comment. I do know that, as a politician, he broke my heart back when he resigned his seat in Congress rather than be demoted after the 1998 election when it looked like his people might remove him as Speaker. I kept wondering why he had not taken a more prominent role in the impeachment proceedings, not been more outspoken about Clinton's crimes, etc. Then it all became public. I'll never trust him again.
It’s fantasy, not real life troubles. I think the best way to describe it is Survivor combined with the Triwizard championship. If any of that gets you down then by all means wait, but it will grip you, i guarantee it.
Been up here in the mountains of Texas Tech land (Lubbock, TX) babysitting some gas turbine mods fer the past week ....
(I think I’m allergic to AZ and NM. Every time a 60 mph dust storm blows from the west, I end up sneezing my head off.)
So, speakin’ of the ex-Big Twelve Conference, anybody considering that the IowaPawkEye’s were an excellent liberal “investment” by McGovern way in 1972 when he was able to convince the nation that two very liberal states (Iowa and NH both voted for democrat Presidents in most elections since 1968) should lead off the Republican and Democrat primary voting?
Newt has stated that his marriage to Callista is valid in the eyes of the Catholic church and that he is a practicing Catholic along with his wife. I assume that is the truth, as there has been nothing in the press to dispute that. The article merely stated how that possibly happened.
