"According to Digital Music News, Megaupload's new venture, MegaBox, is a "cloud-based music locker, download store, and do-it-yourself artist service." So far, partners of MegaBox include 7digital, Gracenote, Rovi and Amazon, the world's largest online retailer. Megaupload founder Kim Schmitz said Universal "knows that we are going to compete with them via our own music venture called Megabox.com, a site that will soon allow artists to sell their creations directly to consumers while allowing artists to keep 90 percent of earnings."
90% for the artists - That would have had an impact on the greedy Universal Music and other Record Labels. So they used their dirty connections and had it shut down.
The record companies are already pissed off about Bandcamp and Soundcloud - it’s just the record companies have no way to sue them.
It’s a good thing though. People are just now starting to understand that their government is becoming their enemy.
And these people have proof of this where?
As if Amazon, an internationally recognized brand, would need to to go to such lengths.
RIAA/MPAA You will never find a more loathsome hive of scum and villainy.
This is government gangsterism and needs to be shut down when the GOP comes back to power.
This was posted on another thread here. It is interesting.

There have been DIY music sites offering artists an array of services for years now. Schmitz is attempting to divert attention from his alleged piracy.
I wish I had as much faith in them as you do.
Hmmmm. Interesting indeed.
Ahahahaha!!! That's hilarious.
I’m buds with a couple of instructors at Musicians Inst. here in Hollywood. It is hard for artists to make money by themselves because the system favors marketing reps and record labels who expertly know the payola’ system on radio and TV. More reason why bands go on tour a lot because tours generate more revenue in the majority for the artists and bands. Well anyways, they’re mostly liberals so eff em..
On the other hand, most people I know of who make money uploading “stuff” don’t use Megaupload because you don’t make money off them. I personally know people who prefer Fileserve, Filesonic or Depositfiles for making money BUT you have to be careful how you “write” the link..
Has the Gang's Other Party shown any indication they are interested in turning down Hollywood's cash? Google "Lamar Smith".
Isn’t Megaupload.com still available via IP address or one of those FF plugs?
Interesting point.
Incredibly stupid for Megaupload to have any servers based in the U.S. though. It’s why they got shut down.

They actually have sites that “link protect” so bots that trace uploader links on forums can’t trace their stuff automatically.
The fact is, the music industry can’t survive and the movie/tv industry will have to decentralize soon regardless of what they want. I hope the music industry realizes that if they would have modernized and made an itunes-like direct d/l service.
Take for example the band Toro Y Moi - I bought their LP on line which linked to a downloadable/passworded copy of the LP on MP3. I went to their concert by buying tickets online.
Another group I like Giraffage is on Soundcloud. They issued an EP and made payment optional. I paypalled him $5.
Decentralization is awesome because the money decentralizes with it. Screw Hollywood.
That’s the way it should be....the music recordings should serve as the advertising for the band, to get people interested in seeing them live.
But gee, that way, artists would have to play real instruments, and sing without auto-tune. Can’t have that now, can we?
Radiohead was the first major band that started this when they self-released “In Rainbows”. I think that serves as the model for bands in the future.

The irony is that the actual artists with talent are the ones avoiding the establishment record companies. It’s the talentless folks that need the promotion. I mean really - who the f*** is Ke$ha?
You don’t need them to print CD’s and tour anymore.
That was interesting!
