Word For The Day, Tuesday, January 17, 2012
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
nebby{nebē, -bi}
-adj
1. dial : rudely inquisitive : meddlesome
2. dial Brit : sharp-natured : spiteful
[neb + -y].
They can just slap a “don’t try this at home” warning to the front of her shows.
I think it's fair.
Ask yourself, "Does Nebby sound like the name of a ventriloquist's dummy?"
It does, doesn't it?
So if it isn't the name of a ventriloquist's dummy, then it must not be a real word. I have watched Perry Mason, you know.
I see. And if she weighs as much as a duck, she must be made of wood.
Those warnings on every commercial and the shows about the outdoors make me want to scream-I find it unbelievable that people are that dumb, or that everyone worries about idiot lawsuits that much.
