Word For The Day, Tuesday, January 17, 2012
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
nebby{nebē, -bi}
-adj
1. dial : rudely inquisitive : meddlesome
2. dial Brit : sharp-natured : spiteful
[neb + -y].
I caught enough of the debate last night to instantly observe the nebby questions from the “moderators”.
I’m not being pushy or nebby
I didn’t whisper with Israel’s Chief Rebbe
But if I were Iran
I’d kill my nuclear plan
An admonition: remember Entebbe
hi
I LOVE THIS WORD! it’s my “roots”! you neb-$h!t you!
And nebby is short for??
Go Newt!
Nebulous? ;-)
I don’t see how this word “nebby”, can really be out there.
It’s never been the name of a ventriloquist’s dummy.
Is that your test for inclusion in the dictionary?
Good morning - interesting word!
Good morning yourself. I was rooting for your Texans, but they just couldn’t get it done with all those turnovers. At least the Packers lost, so I can take some satisfaction is that.
It was a fun year for Texans fans - breaking into the big boys club was fun! I heard last night Jacoby Jones is probably going to be looking for a new job next season though.....
As Homer Simpson once exclaimed “Actors! Is there anything they don’t know?”
Watched a movie last week called "Super." Rainn Wilson plays a schlub who loses his wife (Liv Tyler) to a sleazy drug dealer (Kevin Bacon) who gets her re-addicted. In the depths of his despair he has a vision from God that he should become a superhero.
So he dons a costume, and arms himself with a pipe wrench, to go out and tell crime to "shut up."
Ellen Page plays a slightly-unhinged comic book store worker who becomes his sidekick and looks hot in her costume.
Darkly funny, realistic, and at times disturbing this one is worth a look on a winter's night.
Quit being such a nebby nebbish!

What would you do for a Klondike bar? Er, Chicken McNuggets.
