I'm not crowing about anything.
Sure you are. You're obviously giddy that Harper is putting Canada first whilst giving the US the middle finger and going elsewhere to sell the oil even if it is to China. If I'm wrong then you might want to correct the opinion I've formed 'cause that's how I read things judging from your replies.

This project is going nowhere.
Throwing in some condescending certitude as well?
You're not even willing to wait the month between now and the proposed China pitch to see what Congress does next.

He is weakening your country at every turn.
Tell me something I don't know!

I'm happy that Harper is doing the job he was elected to do and furthering Canadian economic interests. You should get a president that does the same for your country and BOTH countries would be better off.

(giddy that Harper is..)giving the US the middle finger

Nope, not in the least. Your chief executive has decided that he doesn't want the pipeline or the oil. His "energy policy" is higher energy prices through reduced supply. Cancelling the pipeline has the added benefit, for him, of weakening the US and making China stronger. I should be happy about this? What part of this don't you get? And aren't you a little defensive on this?

This project is going absolutely nowhere as long as Obama is president. It is dead until the election and there is no guarantee it will go forward after the election. In fact, TransCanada has been told to re-apply for a permit. That's another three years. Why wait another month to get the "final, double secret, turndown"? TransCanada cannot afford to sit around and wait to see who wins the next election.

As you probably know, TransCanada is not building this pipeline on spec. They have contracts with shippers in hand. The uncertainty caused by Obama is going to lead those shippers to look at alternatives. No shippers, no pipeline.

When the girl you are dating keeps stalling you and saying no, even though you would love to lay that pipe, sometimes you take no for an answer and seek out another girl.

Try this.

PM Harper is a very smart, astute politician. Imagine retaining power for several years in a legislature where the majority of members share Obama's views. Harper did just that. He plays politics very well.

Foreign intervention is US politics, especially presidential politics tends to be counter productive at best. Harper know this. However, I'm sure he would love to see Obama gone. What better way to help him out the door than to hand the republicans an issue like this? His hands are clean, he is doing his job, and he has put Obama in a corner. Everybody wins.
