I went to college in Western Pennsylvania in the late 1970’s and had a job working in the school cafeteria. The women in there were mostly farmer’s wives and it was not uncommon for their daughters to be married at 13 and having babies at 14, all with the joyous consent of the families. I don’t know what the state’s age of consent was at the time but it must not have been an issue.
Use the “half your age + 7” rule. Works every time.
You are 18? 9 + 7= 16. (senior and sophomore)
22 gives you an 18 year old.
It isn’t the law, but definitely helps figure out the skeeviness factor.
One of those "teens" was a 19-year-old adult.
“Would this even be a news item 150 years ago?”
Only in local West Virginia gossip filed under shotgun weddings.
Guilty.
ducking
You ought to go see this losers FB page before they haul it down...looks like he had a raft of teeny boppers in his list. Seems to have a preference for young, long-faced girls with long, dark hair. This incident doesn’t look like an accident. Yeah, if he knew she was 13...give him the chair. The law is the lawdon’t break it. Don’t like the law...vote in reps that will change it. This guy needs to move to Greeceat least he’ll get a disability check!
Bottom line: We all know the law. We all know things change when you turn 18 and your friends don’t. Use the limited blood supply God gave us to let the correct portion of the body make decisions like this and DON’T MESS WITH LITTLE GIRLS!
The exact situation my Darling Daughter was in.
My ex, the evil slime mom, had no problem okaying her dating him.
*sigh*
We were all wondering the same thing...
...nully now looking for a 37 yo woman...
Nope. They'd have met in person (if at all), likely in supervised circumstances at some sort of social function or in town. (No computers). Their parents would have had more of an opportunity to put the brakes on things, at least until she reached the ripe old age of 14 or 15.
IIRC, the age of consent for women was 14 in W. VA not so many decades ago, 16 for guys.
