From the article: ...the gayest city in the U.S. is Salt Lake City, Utah, according to The Advocate, the gay and lesbian newsmagazine...The Advocate used different measures to establish “per capita queerness” — including a city’s number of teams entered in the Gay Softball World Series, gay bookstores, openly gay elected officials and semifinalists in the International Mr. Leather Contest...

As FR poster Scoutmaster mentioned last Sunday:

Utah leads the nation in # of porn subscriptions per capita, porn consumption among the general internet user population and dial-up users. Source 1, and Red Light States: Who Buys Online Adult Entertainment?, Benjamin Edelman (Journal of Economic Perspectives—Volume 23, Number 1—Winter 2009—Pages 209–220). Utah also lead the nation in porn busts. FBI in Utah Lead Nation in Porn Busts.

Utah's sexual violence: broader Utah, of which 60% are Lds.
Sexual misconduct pervasive problem among teachers (KSL.com, Oct. 25, 2009)

Quote from this KSL article: SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- State education officials say sexual misconduct by teachers is the No. 1 reason Utah educators are forced to surrender their licenses. Records shows Utah has nearly 20,000 licensed educators. Since 1992, the State Board of Education has suspended or revoked 313 teacher licenses -- 208 of them for sexual misconduct. That number excludes 10 cases still being investigated by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission. The behaviors range from inappropriate touching and downloading pornography on a school computer to full-blown molestation...In 2005, a survey by The Associated Press ranked Utah 16th in the nation for teacher sex offenses based on disciplinary records from 2001 to 2005 in 50 states and the District of Columbia. At that time, 52.7 percent of Utah teachers who lost their licenses surrendered them for sexual misconduct -- twice the national rate, the AP found.
Sexual misconduct persistent in Utah schools (Oct. 25, 2009)
Utah's sexual assault rate outpaces U.S. average (April 6, 2010)

Utah Sexual assault realities:

* A few years ago, KSL reported that there's a reported rape in Utah less than 9.5 hours apart (see http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=148&sid=14136899)-- that's up just from 2008 when it was just under a rape per 10 hours...http://publicsafety.utah.gov/bci/documents/CIU%202008%20book%200810.pdf, p. 6

* Per the Utah Bureau of Criminal Identification (see also Utah Department of Health), the 2008 Utah rape rate was 63.7 per 100,000 females vs. U.S. average of 57.4. For entire crime report, see: http://publicsafety.utah.gov/bci/documents/CIU%202008%20book%200810.pdf

* BTW, 2008 wasn't some “new surge”: Since 1991, Utah’s rape rate has consistently inched higher than the national rate. By 2002, Utah ranked 14th in the nation for rapes. [Source url: http://deseretnews.com/dn/view/0,1249,600125585,00.html] -- and inched to 13th by 2004...http://www.utahfoundation.org/reports/?page_id=290)

* Why has Utah as of the years since 2000, consistently has ranked between 13 & 18 re: rape rate?

* Why as of 5 years ago, was Utah #8 in the nation for its sex offender rate per Nation Master.com?

Utah "...officials are already struggling to house and treat the sex offenders who make up 30 percent of the state's prison population — well above the national average of 12 percent.

Hmmm . . . I seem to recall similar statistics about porn on the international level applying to Muslim countries. Must be something about polygamist heresies started by self-proclaimed prophets who claim to have been given new scriptures by angels.

I had an occasion to visit Minneapolis in the early 80’s for a company school. You couldn’t take your kids to a public park without seeing men swapping spit all over the place. This was back in the 80’s, what might it be like now? And SLC is worse!

Gay softball? Gay bookstores?

A gay religious cult will cause that every time.

I think a correlated trend (tho hard to prove) is that many young males are leaving the Mormon church.

For every 3 young women in the Utah Mormon churches, there's only 2 young men.

Source: New study confirms many LDS stereotypes [Lds church bloats stats; men defecting @ high rates]

The Mormon church is no longer an "adhesive" for young men, who are beginning to leave it in droves.

Several years ago, the Mormon church was up to 60,000 missionaries. For the last several years, it has hovered around 52,000.

More young men have access to the Internet -- for better (discover the truth about Mormonism) and for worse (porn, etc.)

Why not just take an accurate scale, visit the local shoe stores and record the weight of the loafers?

I have gotten to know well two Mormon men over the years, one turned out to be a pedophile the other I think may of been gay for he never dated anyone at least not openly. That doesn't make me an expert in any way shape or form, but that did create my opinion of Mormons.

Downtown SLC, the historic district called the Avenues, a hillside neighborhood 20 blocks from Temple Square called Sugarhouse, are as liberal as either coast.

Young population, TONS of world class recreation within an hour’s drive, access to any western city within a 90 minute flight.

Yep, Salt Lake is the perfect petri dish.

Hard to believe. Most leftist, including gays, hang around large bodies of water. Thus San Fran, Fla Keys, etc.

The Great Salt Lake isn’t that big and is drying up! lol
