The five Republicans candidates trying to emerge as the alternative to front-runner Mitt Romney engaged in fratricidal combat on a stage at St. Anselm College Saturday night as the former Massachusetts governor aimed his political barbs at President Obama.
With just days remaining before New Hampshire's first-in-the-nation primary on Tuesday, the candidates trailing Romney in the polls decided to battle each other for second place rather than focus on the candidate running far ahead of them in the polls.
Romney smiled as the other candidates attacked each other and defended his record against occasional, mild criticism from GOP rivals. But he repeatedly skewered the Democratic incumbent's economic record and foreign policies.
"His policies have made the recession deeper, and his policies have made the recovery more tepid," Romney said of Obama.
The ABC News debate was the first of two nationally televised encounters in 12 hours. The candidates will reconvene 15 miles north for a debate at 9 a.m. EST Sunday in Concord.
The back-to-back debates are the last chance to slow Romney's momentum before New Hampshire voters cast their ballots. Polls show the former Massachusetts governor running more than 20 percentage points ahead of his opponents in New Hampshire and vaulting into the lead in the next state to hold a primary, South Carolina.
University of Virginia government professor Larry Sabato called the debate "a classic case of a front-runner winning by hiding in plain sight."

Obummer Lite scares the crap out of me, out of the frying pan and into the fire if he gets into the WH.
and once again, Romney is so blah during yet another debate that he gains no new support from the sheeple.

Republicans all across America like to think of their coalition as the party of Ronald Reagan, but have you noticed how frequently the party nominates somebody who opposed Ronald Reagan in 1980?Since Reagans last nomination in 1984 the GOP has nominated four men to lead the Republican party into the presidential battle. Three of them were aligned against Reagan in the 1980 presidential nomination and the other was . . . John McCain. We are not charge of our own party. Or rather the party that we think is our own and really isn't.
Once again, the GOP appears set to nominate such a candidate. Mitt Romney strikes me as a very capable and competent person, possessing many qualities needed in a good president and most definitely superior to the current one, but he is not a Reagan conservative. So, heres the question of the day: why cant the party of Reagan ever seem to nominate a Reaganite?[...]
I’ve been trying to get a feel for how the debates went and all I can find are articles about how well Willard did against Steffie. Did anyone else speak last night?
NEWT slams romney!!...

“stays above the fray”
That means the media will continue to give him the kid glove treatment. They won’t put him through the meat grinder until, and unless, he gets the nom.
Then he will be Palinized.
Well of course you can stay above the fray if NO ONE is gonna push ya.
He thinks Obama is just gonna let him slide? Is he that naive?
“Did anyone else speak last night?”
The debate is already posted on youtube:

It’s better to watch it for yourself instead of listening to second hand accounts from people pushing an agenda.
Whodathunk - poop floats. Hope Mitt isn’t “our choice”, but I’ll touch the screen for him over Obama if the worst happens.
Bishop Romney is an angel says the article
BUT
Romney has his Legion of Backstabbers going after
everyone else so he can “be above the fray”.
Its kind of creepy how Romney smiles as if someone just gave him an incredible compliment when they actually accused you of being a complete phoney?
Whodathunk - poop floats. Hope Mitt isnt our choice, but Ill touch the screen for him over Obama if the worst happens.I am so damned tired of holding my nose and voting for the lesser evil. And I hate the way that the conservatives are doing their best to kill each others campaigns, leaving the spoils to the likes of Paul and Romney.
And yeah, we already know that during primary season, the media will always support the Republican candidate that they think the Democrat candidate will have the easiest time beating. But Conservatives seem to be intent in aiding and abetting the media this year.
Know what else kind of weird. I youtube santorum 1/7/12 debates and its all paul clips?
So, then I tried Gingrich 1/7/12 debate highlights and guess who?
I think most of us are tired with the crappy choices we have been getting. If we give up, all will be lost - have to keep fighting the good fight and pray for a break. Keep plugging away and hope for the best, then leverage any opening we may get.
All I know is we need to get Paul a new strait jacket-—ASAP
If you are undecided on Mitt, you can get his prospectus for $19.99
Perry vowed to create even more jobs for illegal aliens.
Santorum furthered secession plans for Pennsylvania with him as king.
Gingrich said if you need to know the truth go to The New York Times.
And I decided to vote for Huntsman.
When the Chinese finally become our new masters, at least he may be able to bow correctly.
Ha. Staying above the fray ...kinda like that guy who hides behind the bushes in a firefight ...allowing his buddies to take the heat while he “plays it safe.” He survives while they don’t ...although it’s THEY who provide the TRUE sacrifice that wins the war.
Kinda like that — staying above the fray. Right. Romney is SUCH a great guy.
The most important objective for 2012 is to retire Barack Obama. It would be better—and more fitting—to retire him without a pension that he has not earned, but that’s too much to hope for.
Barack Obama is a Marxist menace on American freedom. Next to that, almost any compromise is acceptable. Romney isn’t perfect, but he will be a better President on his worst day than Obama is on his best day.
That’s the choice before us.
B.S.! Romney is a socialist with an ® next to his name. He’s just as bad.
