Third graders in in Gwinnett County, Ga., were given math homework Wednesday that asked questions about slavery and beatings.
Christopher Braxton told ABC News affiliate WSB-TV in Atlanta that he couldn't believe the assignment his 8-year-old son brought home from of Beaver Ridge Elementary school in Norcross.
"It kind of blew me away," Braxton said. "Do you see what I see? Do you really see what I see? He's not answering this question."
The question read, "Each tree had 56 oranges. If eight slaves pick them equally, then how much would each slave pick?"
Another math problem read, "If Frederick got two beatings per day, how many beatings did he get in one week?"

I miss the good doctor. A great FReeper.
Ping
I found it interesting that the news media did NOT interview the TEACHER(s) who handed out this ridiculous assignment! Gee, I wonder why?!
Fred? What kind of slave name is that? Should be Ajax, or Samson, or something classical.
Toby.
[it’s almost obligatory]
My Dixie Lee’s a voracious, enthusiastic eater, sure, but she *does* have her standards of gustatory cleanliness , you know.
:)
You’ve never had a Dumerils Boa, have you?
Sweet as Tupelo honey...until feeding day.
Then Dr Jeckyl becomes Mrs Hyde.
She’s the only snake I feed with 24” forceps and a glove on.
[she’s also the only one kept under lock and key]
When she explodes out from under her substrate and hits that dead rat, it knocks the forceps outta my hand and rattles the Lexan of her condo.
[her enthusiasm is a bit terrifying]....LOL
She eats once a week...~or else~.
:-0
Alas, she’s also the only one big enough to ~really~ dance with.
;]
Gonna get me a Colombian BCI, one day.
Magnificent creatures.
God gave the Irish whiskey so they wouldn’t rule the world.
Then God gave the Irish the potato famine so they would.
[now, you wanna fight about that?]
;-D
Tell me about it.
I have to look at the “Robert Byrd Everything” several times a month.
:D
The world can thank Scotsmen for inventing copper wire. Two of them were fighting over a penny.
New World Arboreal Boas, maybe.
Old World Terrestrial Boas, doubtful.
[we *could* send in a bunch of big Burms and clean up the whole town]
:)
Thank God I wasn’t drinking anything....LOL
What is the difference between a set of bagpipes and a chainsaw?
You can tune the chainsaw.
Good one.
We can expect to see a plethora of “news” stories like this from now until the election. The lib “journalists” are busting their butts looking for anything that smacks of racism.
This is the lib playbook for the election cycloe. If they can’t find the real thing, they’ll make it up.
Don’t look for any stories of black on white voter intimidation or black flash mobs robbing and beating white people.
It’s an election year. Goebbels is alive and working.
“Scotland basically invented the 20th century.”
And in the centuries to follow, Scotsmen will be building the starships. I saw that on TV.
My first year calculus instructor would spend the entire period demonstrating how to work a problem, covering 3 or 4 blackboards. Invariably he dropped signs, left out steps ("it is obvious [to him, maybe] that...) &/or made arithmetic errors.
When anyone tried to tell him, it was, "hold your questions until I finish...," then end with something like 1 = 0 and just enough time to give the assignment.
Out of 30 or so students at the beginning, we ended up with 0 As; 1 B; 1 C; 5 Ds; 9 Fs; the rest dropped...then his contract was dropped. But the grades stood.
At the end of the term, there were 6 of us left. I got an A in the class, but only because I taught myself everything I could find, because we never knew what might be on the tests. He must not have counted that first test, because I couldn't have gotten an A average with it (I got a 38.) I think he knew he passed out the wrong test in the beginning of the term, but he would never admit it.
That's probably not a good idea. They might eat some of the two legged rats.
Wait...
On second thought, maybe you're on to something here.
LOL!
