Volume of mercury wise, compared to the amount of mercury that was in the old tubes, it will be still be far less mercury per year than commercial building tubes in the 50s through the seventies contained.
Your problem here is that you fail to concieve just how much mercury was tossed out in previous generations.
And we have not even touched upon the mercury in switches which used to be common.
