If the Establishment likes him because he has the right demographics and helps the party win elections, while he stays truly conservative, I can live with that.

But Romney at the top of the ticket cancels everything out and then some.

Besides. I think Rubio can smell a loser, and he isn’t in the habit of going for the #2 spot. When the time is right, he’ll go for the top slot.

For the same reasons that the Democratic establishment likes Obama.

1. Minority
2. First term Senate
3. No egregious record

Simple.

I'd put money on it that the republicans are trying to co-opt him. He's bound to be a prime target.

"We don't need a lot of Jim DeMint disciples," Lott said in an interview. "As soon as they get here, we need to co-opt them."

Yeah well, as it stand right now Rubio is much closer to Demint than any of those republicans in the establishment.

But what could be better for the republicans than a highly popular big government/establishment hispanic candidate? It would be a panderer's wet dream.
