In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
gasconade \gas-kuh-NEYD\ , noun
Extravagant boasting; boastful talk.
verb
To boast extravagantly; bluster.
Example sentences:
The British officers laugh, because they are well armed and many, and Kemal's men are pitifully few, but they enjoy and admire Kemal's swashbuckling gasconade, and they let his party pass.
-- Louis de Bernières, Birds Without Wings
The papers, barely days old, were full of boastful malarkey and gasconade, but of much more evident value when it came to information about the state of things in France, and in the local area.
-- Dewey Lambdin, Troubled Waters
Etymology:
Gasconade originally referred to people who were from the Gascony region of southwest France, bordering Spain. Gascons reputedly boast and exaggerate their success, and their toponym took on a life of its own. It became common in English in the early 1700s.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

WFB's attempt to emulate us ; ) No pushing at the door please!
They must know their customers pretty well.
Gee Whiz...
I couldn't see getting that exercised over the choice of Supermarket Spokesman.
Once upon a time, I worked for Wegmans. What a hoot that job was. One of the things they always did was market themselves to the Christians. NO offensive language was ever allowed. Now they use Baldwin as a spokesman? Not the image they usually portrayed.
The other thing that was mind-boggling was that they would NEVER arrest or prosecute a student who stole from them. Dear old MOM might be a customer and they would not offend a customer.
xshub said he thinks she lives in Manlius, the upperbracket district.
most likely. they do cater to their customers....got lots of wegmans stories. they were pretty decent to work for. I enjoyed my time there. I worked overnights, had lots of fun. you have to know the tweets were from his followers on Tweet though. no way the ordinary, every day customer tweeted them in support of Baldwin. I do enjoy shopping there.
A+ for you.
Do you get the impression Newt is staying in it to keep Mittens out? A+ for you.
No...Newt is staying in it because Newt knows Newt is the Grand Visionary America needs. Ask Him.
He also knows simple math. Mittens is Mr 23%, Paultards will die out as the race drones on, leaving Santorum and Perry.
Mittens needs Newt to stay in it so he can keep winning at 25%.
Paul needs out right now. He’s the one guy left with a modicum of support, and ZERO prospects draining from Conservative alternatives to Milquetoast Mitt....
Mid 60’s and partly cloudy again today-love that global warming...
Beginning a year of gasconade
King Obama is already making
The huge mistake of believing
Votes are his for the taking
There’s the union of workers
In gas and oil he has screwed
By saying “no” to the pipeline
Now the Canadians know he’s rude
And now the military is snarling
Over Obama’s dangerous cuts
That leave us looking stupid
With no way to cover our butts
“seeds she was given by a bearded stranger”
I can’t help but be remimded of “Jack and the Beanstalk”-did someone think the plants could be climbed so they could get to the treasure...
I like Newt for VP or Sec of State.
A+ for you. Speaking of labor, I’m more than a little peeved about his latest rash of extraconsitutional recess appts. while no one was actually in recess.
I don’t think of Callista or whatever her name is as part of a comfy, family image-I’m betting some people will remember her as a homewrecker, right or wrong. That hairdo of hers should maybe be changed, too-it is so sprayed it doesn’t move at all-cold and hard looking, like she is wearing a gold helmet. Sec of State might be okay, but not VP-he might be too much like Biden, talking first and thinking later.
Thank you! I’m waiting to see if anyone in congress-which is technically kind of in session-has the balls to call him on it. It only takes one member with a titanium set to do it...
They are talkling about the appointments on Cavuto now-why will no one ask why, with all those f***ing lawyers in congress can someone not file an injunction orsome other legal action to halt this madness?
I agree. Unfortunately, courts like to wait until someone is injured, then they have a case. In huge, significant issues like this, I think it should be adjudicated almost immediately. Now you can’t have everybody running every new law or procedure to the Supreme Court as an “emergency” but some things are more important.
Well, since the idiot appears to have ignored at least part of the law, I would think one of the lawyers in congress could file an injunction or something of the sort.
That would require will and conviction, something lacking in the GOP. They should simply refuse to do anything until these appointments are voided.
Also, I understand the NLRB needs to have at least one minority party member to function. The GOP member who contemplated resigning when Boeing was being harrassed should do so now.
I think those are good ideas-I also see no reason why the NLRB needs to exist any more-it is as antiquated as so many of the unions. They had a purpose once way back when, but they have been controlled by the mob since fairly in the last century-one of my great aunts married a guy from Chicago and they lived there until 1956 or so-he was a bar owner in Chicago, and in Dallas after they moved to Texas, and the stories he told about the unions and the mob were fascinating, scary s***...
There is catfish with garlic, lemon, butter, wine and capers that I put together earlier calling me to put it in the oven, and a salad ready for vinegar and oil-back later...
