Gene Burns is one of the Bay Area talkers ousted by Cumulus at KGO (810), and he was supposed to start this week at Clear Channel's revamped talk KKSF (910). Instead, 415 Media Exclusive's Rich Lieberman has a report from KGO's Pat Thurston, to the effect that Burns had a stroke and is recovering. In his place at KKSF this week will be a rotating cast of other former KGO personalities: Bill Wattenburg (today), Gil Gross, John Rothmann and Rosie Allen. Burns' regular shift is 4-7pm Pacific time.
I’m sorry he’s sick, but I turned Gene Burns off years ago, after his daylong rant at Nixon the day after his funeral.

He’s supp. moved to the left, against Iraq war etc. though was seen as conservative/libertarian years ago.
Agreed. I have never been a fan of his, but I respect his very long tenure. He’s not had a very good couple years these past 1-2 or so.
I loved Gene Burns when he was on WRKO out of Boston, the first talk show I got hooked on.
Hope he recovers fully!!!
Also loved Jerry Williams, and now Howie Carr on WRKO.
He broke the only rule, wait an appropriate amount of time before you speak ill of the dead, but does anyone disagree that Nixon was a criminal, an anti-semite and a biggot, he should have been prosecuted and imprisoned for crimes against the constitution and the people!!!
Many years ago Gene Burns was the Libertarian candidate for President.
Nixon was also one of the very first Establishment Republicans (RINO’s).
WTF? KKSF used to be the "Soft & Warm" smooooooth jazz* station.

No, it wasn't. The President's decision was fully authorized by Congress, and overwhelmingly so. It's not like there is some form called a "Declaration of War" that must be filled out in triplicate and passed by Congress. "Declaring War" in the Constitution simply means that the authorization to use the military to go make war must come from the Congress. It did.
Very rarely has the Congress used the actual word "declaration" in their authorizations to use force, but they don't need to. They just need to be the body that provides the authorization. That's all the Constitution demands.
I disagree with that, sure. He was no more an anti-semite or bigot that anyone of his time may have been. His views about people were those common to many people a couple of generations ago. I heard my grandfather say some things back in the day, that, were he alive today would probably not say or really even believe anymore. He was a product of his times, and so was Nixon.
I'm not sure that Nixon committed "crimes against the Constitution" (whatever that means... A crime is a crime. The Constitution controls the powers of Congress and the courts). Whether Nixon broke the law is something that will be studied for decades, but anything he did would have been pretty small-potatoes stuff. Most likely obstruction if anything.
I happen to think that Ford's pardon of Nixon was ~exactly~ the right thing to do. So was Nixon's resignation. I think if there had been a prosecution the damage done to the office and to the country would have been horrific, and worse than the original acts of burglary ever were. Nixon respected the office of the Presidency enough that he resigned rather than fight. That was the right thing to do. Clinton should have had so much respect, but he didn't. Then Ford snipped off any further action by granting the pardon. It's just what the country needed.
I also listened to and loved that show. When I finally met him in person I was shocked at how frail and sickly he looked. That was years ago, imagine the shape he must be in now.
Nixon's apparent problem with "jews" was related to what he perceived were political demographics. He can certainly be blamed for that crude analysis.
He went off the deep end several years ago when G.W. became President. Nightly rants against Iraq. Well, O.K. Then he changed his registration from Libertarian to democrat so he could vote for Obama in the California Primary. Now he is big proponent of Obamacare and single payer due to his near death while on vacation in Tahiti. The French health care system came to his rescue and charged him(his insurance company) $40K for nearly a month in the hospital. He was in ICU unit for much of the time. I hope some poor French cheese maker realizes his high taxes are, in part, saving the life of an American talk show host on an Island Paradise he will never visit.
Sounds like he is a far cry from what he was saying when he was in Boston.
Gene has been on and off the air due to health issues more and more in the last few years. Too bad, sharp mind but affected by the constant wash of liberal views at his previous station.
