Word For The Day, Monday, 1/2/12

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

numinous; adj.

1. of, pertaining to, or like a numen; spiritual or supernatural. 2. surpassing comprehension or understanding; mysterious: that element in artistic expression that remains numinous. 3. arousing one's elevated feelings of duty, honor, loyalty, etc.: a benevolent and numinous paternity.

Etymology: "divine, spiritual," 1647, from L. numen (gen. numinis) "divine will," properly "divine approval expressed by nodding the head," from nuere "to nod" (cf. Gk. neuein "to nod").

Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

That was another middle school book. We had the author come talk at the middle school two years ago. It’s like the Twilight series, they have definite followings. Different strokes for different folks.

It’s beautiful in its simplicity, isn’t it?

His speeches, God-like & voluminous
Obama, our pResident Numinous.
The Messiah, they say,
But turn the other way
To his shortcomings and all-too-humanness...

Goodbye, Newman.

Luminous, numinous Victor Cruz lights up Terence Newman en route to a 74 yard score last night. It remains a mystery as to how all of the NFL teams allowed him to linger until the seventh round of the draft.

Now that Three Years Have Passed, Everybody forgets the Numinous Propaganda Photos of The Messiah Obama, that depicted him with halos and beams of light emanating from his pusillanimous visage.

"Whyisa and my friend Paula, within days of each other, both recommended The Hunger Games to me last week. I started the first book on Sat evening and was done with it within 24 hours. i am OBSESSED with it. Not highbrow lit but a compelling well told story that sucks you in immediately. I had not heard about the movie etc, but have since seen the trailer and am looking forward to the movie. I hate fiction because it makes me stay up late and monopolizes all of my time."

If you think it takes up time just reading it ...

My daughter has recently dumped her Twilight posters, and is equally obsessed with The Hunger Games books. I suppose that means I will have to become part of that universe as well.

Huh! OLD? no way. you just have to develop new neurons to handle the new technology. DH got an android phone and it is a hoot watching him navigate the key board. He will manage and become adept at it, as you will. I got the Nook Tablet for Christmas and have mastered most of it. Some of the finer points escape me, like how to enlarge the print on the web. Can you believe there was NO instruction manual with it? I about freaked.

Yeah, I saw that recommendation. Then my nieces recommended it to me. Seems they all got the Kindle Fire and were already into the series before that. My one niece is finishing up her masters, so she has limited time to read for pleasure, but she had already downloaded the second book in the series to her new kindle and was reading on Christmas day. She left it in her car when she got to Grandma’s. Left it there so she wouldn’t read and be rude. LOL Seems everyone got a Kindle Fire.....I recall telling them all about the Kindle Fire and Nook Tablet on Thanksgiving. There were lots of questions and interest....then on Christmas I find out they all got them...parents and children alike. LOL Didn’t know I had that much influence.

I even read in the car, which I never do! I couldn’t put the story down. When you finish you are sort of let down that it is over but glad to be done! lol

We hesitated upgrading Jax to the Kindle Fire because it isn’t 3G which the one she got last Christmas is. In the end we went ahead with it because of some comments on a review thread here explaining why they most likely won’t do a 3G one.

She loves it, but still uses the old one when there’s no WiFi available.

I read in the car all the time. One problem I found with the NOOK, is that the latest book I downloaded, when I increased the size of the print, it loses the last few sentences...none of the other books I read did, so it must be how they produced it. If reading in the car, I usually increase the print size to make it easier to read. Not with this book, and it’s boring. Island of Lost Girls, not really recommending it, still hoping it gets better. A giant bunny kidnaps a girl in front of a young woman. The story progresses with flashbacks to the woman’s child hood and another missing girl. So far it really hasn’t engaged me.

I sent my old one, with a year’s worth of books, to my son in CA.....he promptly changed it to his name and lost all his books. I had to talk him through changing the name back and the books were all there. No going back for me.
