    One news source (don’t remember what it was) gave his age as 48.

    In reading the comments at the article, someone said they served with the Lt. Col. 
They stated that he is 48 but that he's served for 29 years.
The sloppiness of the reporter get it wrong again.

    He’s a Marine with 29 years of service. The report got garbled somewhere along the line (either that or Marines don’t count the part of their lives before they joined the Corps).
