Reading your remarks about the character Lula, I was reminded of one of my mom’s paperbacks I read on the sly when I was 10 or 11-I always had an insatiable curiosity for the forbidden-used to do that a lot. The main character, an unrepentant rake named Mario or some such described one of his many recurrent shack jobs thus: “she was mostly overfed and overweight, though she could still just manage voluptous in a good girdle, after a couple of weeks of melba toast and canned tuna.”
I can’t remember the name of that novel, but I’ve always found that passage to be very descriptive of an overly plump, loose woman.
