And as I said that wasn’t the complaint. It was the dumbing down of the script which made the film unbearable in parts. I mean dear God, Gimli as comic relief? Sorry but there’s reworking the books for film and then there’s appealing to the Jar Jar Binks fans demograph.

I can see your point on that.

But at the same time, you do have the reality of matching an elf, who can swiftly run 7 leagues in a night (or whatever) and having a dwarf, who would be used to much shorter distances having to try and keep up. Tolkien, as I recall the books didn’t describe the interaction of such a mismatch.

I would agree with the dwarf tossing references.
