You are a good dog owner because you admit and understand your dog’s personality and temperament. Not all dogs are the easy going, laid back types that would allow toddlers to yank their ears or crawl over them. (I had to laugh that you describe her as a sweetie between 7 pm and 7 am.... she’s a doll when she’s asleep!) LOL!
Most dogs sleep ~16 hr /day (which is good as they sleep more than you do - unlike really youngin's)
Chesapeakes apparently like to bar their (really big lookin') teeth and take exception to unknown dogs and people. Though this dog is basically gentle with a household cat and yard squirrels and deer, she could easily go rogue. I wouldn't trust her with an infant.
My previous dog (a full field Lab) seemed quite gentle until at age 3, she took out two groundhogs by shaking even though she was commanded to drop them.
Apparently dogs are dogs.
Dingos apparently are a whole 'nother case.
