Newt Gingrich preferred over Mitt Romney by Ohio Republican voters, poll says

Trial matchups before a sample of all Ohio voters put Gingrich at 43 percent to Obama's 42 percent, an identical result to a potential Romney-Obama general-election contest in Ohio. Currently undecided voters could determine Ohio's outcome -- and if Ohio's role in recent elections is a gauge, the national outcome.
Yet the new Quinnipiac swing-state poll provides a snapshot of the GOP field's competitiveness.
In the Republican nominating race, Gingrich has a 2-to-1 lead over Romney among Ohio GOP voters, 36 percent to 18 percent, when counting the entire Republican field. No other GOP candidate in the primary field tops 7 percent.
When Ohio GOP voters have just those choices, Gingrich versus Romney, the former Georgia congressman buries the former governor, 55 percent to 28 percent, say the Quinnipiac pollsters.
The sampling of all Ohio voters said by 53 percent to 42 percent that Obama does not deserve a second term. He has a 55 percent job-disapproval rating in the state.

Ohio Republicans favor Newt Over Romney 55 percent to 28 percent. This is probably worth contemplating because, like it or not, Ohio really matters come election day and Mitt Romney clearly will not inspire maximum Ohio Republican turn out which we will need.

To me it’s Obama -20....Romney 10...Newt 60....The closer you get to 100 the better. So yeah, I like Newt much better; flawed, but these days it’s near impossible to get what we want. A bit step up from either/or.

Wonderful!
GO GINGRICH!
Chances are that Governor Kasich will remember Romney stabbing him in the back when he was in Ohio and stood with the Public Employees Union against Kasich.

And if Newt Gingrich wasn't in the race, then it would be Michelle Bachmann who was favored over Romney. And if Bachman wasn't in the race, it would be Rick Perry who was favored over Romney. And if not for Perry, it would be Santorum. And if not for Santorum, it would be Huntsman. And if not for Huntsman, it would be Ron Paul. And if Romney were the only Republican on the ballot, Ohio voters would turn out in droves to write in John Kasich's name just to prevent Mitt from being the nominee.
Enough already. For the umpteenth time, MITT ROMNEY IS NOT GOING TO WIN THE GOP NOMINATION. We do not 'need' Newt Gingrich to keep Romney from winning. Any candidate will do. So let's step back, take a breath, and then support an actual conservative candidate instead of a government-is-the-answer retread like N. Leroy Gingrich. Enough.

You going to vote this primary? I’m going to vote Newt...70%, if not greater. Unless some grand miracle happens and we have a few better chooses com into the ring. Doubt it though.
I feel this whole thing is rigged at times. I know better folks thought about doing it but didn’t...why!?

I heard the same thing being said about McCain...that he cant win...well what happened there?Fear of Romney kicked in, and people quickly became convinced that McCain was a viable alternative. He wasn't, just like Newt isn't.
If you are really implying that Romney has a shot, then I would like to hear your scenario of how that can happen. I can see Romney winning Massachusetts, Michigan, Wisconsin, and a few interior Western states, but that's all. Where do you see him winning?

You really think Romney has a chance in Ohio? In 2008, he got less votes there than Ron Paul.

I guess if you are saying that most of the available candidates are better than Romney or Obama..I agree.
I like your confidence that Romney will not be the nominee. But at the same time, I fear that the fix is in.
I would vote for my dog over Obama (he has far more sense and loyalty).
But...I certainly think N. Leroy Gingrich is a very valid choice.

Takes faith and a contemptuous dismissal of the Leftist and GOP establishment BS propaganda FRiend.
I'm voting for Santorum and I know a lot of other South Carolinians who are too.
None of us has been polled but that's ok cause we have our own “polls.”

How about None of the Above? They’re both “progressives.”
