I have been reading a lot about this law. It would the end of the Internet as we know it.
I have already seen people team up politically and/or socially to make false copyright and community violation complaints against youtubers so they can get their channels closed down. I have seen some that I suspect orginate with politicans and government agencies like TSA and NASA who are offended by critics. Sometimes after you-tube is nagged enough, they will find the charges false and re-instate the channels but advertising income and reputations are lost in the process.
This law will make it too risky to continue community websites.
The copyright lawyers and other copyright special interests have bought the Congress and they are perfectly willing to violate the constitution to guarentee their money flow. How dishonest and disgusting that we even have to deal with a Congress so treasonous.
The system is imbalanced. Those who make a claim of copyright infringement now hold all the cards. They need to be held fully accountable and exposed to being counter sued for damages and frivolous charges and face punitive damages.
Organizations such as EFF are the only forces that fight to offset the power of Hollywood, media and others that want ever more power and restrictions that limit the power of the public, but at the expense of the public.
Every time I see the Hollywood/entertainment industry orchestrated warning on a DVD, that copyright infringement will lead to $250K fine and FBI charges and imprisonment it is an example of corporate power working against Americans. These are not crimes, they should be civil charges that are totally the responsibility of the corporation to investigate, and sue and not the justice department at the expense of every American.
Copyright infringement between businesses is not criminal, it is civil. NO CEO ever goes to prison. The shareholders pay fines and the CEO gets a bonus. Why is it criminal with American citizens? Because Congress is owned by corporations not the citizens as intended.
