We all want the luger, but the P38 is a good shooter, if a bit ugly and utilitarian.

Daddy brought home a Luger, a P-38 and an Austo-Hungarian .32 from WWII. He sold the .32 to my Great Uncle and the Luger to Daddy’s First Cousin who was also a Florida Golden Gloves Boxing Champ. Never heard what happened to the P-38.
At Daddy’s funeral, I asked the Cousin if he still had the Luger but he had sold it years before. He did say that if he still had it, he would have given it to me. He did tell me that he once told Daddy that it was not very accurate. Daddy then took the Luger and proceeded to shoot a tiny group with it.
I still remember my Father killing a gator in Otter Pond near where our farm was. The range must have been close to 40 yards and he only fired the Luger once. I was maybe 4 years old.
