I've used it. It seemed to help. I also leave the door open when not in use.

Those little hoses can probably benefit from the vinegar as well.

I didn’t see where it said that it’s useful against parasites.

I really liked the front loading washers when I first used them in Europe before they became popular here in the US. I was glad when they started coming down in price so I could afford one here.

The key, just like another freeper said, is to keep the door and liquid dispenser at least partially open after doing a load. This allows the inside to stay dry and prevents the buildup of smelly mildew. I’ve had mine for 4 years now and have never had a bad smell. It’s inconvenient at times to hassle with the doors, but my clothes are always nice and clean!

You are correct the HE washers are terrible. I asked the sales rep, “Where is the agitator arm?” (on a top load) and he said, “The clothes rub up against each other.”

But...but...but... the EPA has designated ozone as a major pollutant. They’ll send their SWAT teams to arrest you for pollution if they find out.

They outlaw ozone generators as pollution devices.

Have been scared to do the research on what it has classified H2O2 as.

They can take my O3 generator when they pry it from my cold dead fingers...

Generates “ozone”.....don’t tell the AGW people!!!

Really - lol. I have an ozone generator. I use it on a room by room basis from time to time. Definitely helps with allergies and smells. Makes everything smell fresh.

I have a 3000mg/hr unit. I run it about one hour at a time, with the room sealed. I am not sure what it really kills -- lol. It suppose to kill many of the same things listed in this article.

I believe it degrades over time

H2O2 is unstable as you suspect. The solution you buy at the drugstore is about 3% peroxide the rest being water. It (the peroxide) breaks down into a water molecule and free oxygen which is the bactericide. The breakdown is accelerated by sunlight and higher temperatures. It is best stored in cool dark conditions. That will slow the decomposition but it will eventually turn completely back to water over time. Long term storage is a rather relative thing.

Higher concentrations are commercially available with 30% being used by beauty parlors to create "peroxide blonds". It is a powerful bleaching agent and about as high a concentration as you would normally find in daily commerce. When concentrated to 70 to 98% the instability is dramatically increased. It decomposes in an explosive exothermic reaction which instantly boils the water and produces copious quantities of steam and oxygen which can be further heated by injecting a liquid fuel (diesel oil) or passing it over a combustible solid (butyl rubber).

Toward the end of WWII the German Navy built an emergency power plant for their submarines which used this reaction to generate steam which was passed through a single pass turbine and then vented outside the hull. The turbine generated some 3000 horsepower for thirty seconds and left an enormous bubble where the sub had been, allowing an escape from surface ships dropping depth charges. The bubble serving to spoof the sonar. The device was not popular with crews as the high concentration peroxide was a very dangerous chemical to be stored in the confined spaces of a submarine. I believe they also used it as an oxidizer (T-Stoff) along with a methanol/hydrazine fuel blend (C-Stoff) use to power the ME-163 rocket powered interceptor plane fielded near the end of WWII. The ME-163 was notorious for frying it's pilots, not a real confidence builder.

There is a self taught Mexican mechanical wizard who builds peroxide rocket propelled drag racers, motorcycles, helicopters, and one man rocket belts. His website is http://www.tecaeromex.com/ingles/indexi.html

Reacted with acetone under suitable conditions, H2O2 becomes "Mother of Satan", a favorite of terrorists. Do NOT try this at home as it will prove to be very bad ju-ju (next of kin may be unable to id the body!! You have been warned!).

Regards,
GtG

No, it’s a top loader because of space limitations (not enough room for the door to open outwards). It does a pretty good job on washing, although it makes a weird noise, but I’ve gotten used to that.

As usual with these “green” products, of course, it has a problem. I guess it uses so little water that it doesn’t really get the soap out of its drain, and that’s what makes it smell like a swamp after awhile. So then you have to run a special cleaning cycle, use some ridiculously expensive tablets, run bleach through it, etc. Somehow I don’t think there’s much water-saving going on...and I’ve never had a washing machine that I had to tend like that before! Gimme the old days: put your clothes in, wash them, take them out and never even think about the machine.

Unfortunately, I think there’s some law where these will be the “washing machine of the future.” Maybe one of the GOP candidates could promise to repeal it? He’d get my vote!

Seriously, I’m going to try the white vinegar treatment and I’ll report back.
