This was the (alleged) SEAL team hitching a ride with a bunch of others on a “bus” headed out of the area several days after the assault. They used modified Blackhawk helicopters for the assault on Bin Laden’s compound. The Chinook was being used as a regular transport, which it excels at. There was only one helicopter in US inventory capable of handling more weight than the Chinook, and it was phased out a few years ago. The Chinook is no worse than any other non-attack helicopter in our inventory.

The media widely reported at the time that a Seal team had been sent in to relieve some of our troops who were pinned down by the Taliban, and they were ambushed in a mountain pass by some Taliban who were expecting them.

Of course, that could have been wrong. There were also some denials that any of them were on the Seal team that went in for bin Ladin.

Who knows what to believe?
