good post and very true. A friend of mine was a bartender and a scotch drinker. He had the opportunity to try most of them and he definitely picked dewars. But yes it is a personal thing and whatever brand the person tends to prefer is the choice.

When I drank scotch I developed a pronounced preference for single malt over blends before I even realized single malt was supposed to be superior.

Dewars tasted almost sour to me, and practically all blends were harsh. The only blend I could really tolerate well enough to enjoy was Dimple (Pinch), which was smooth and mild.

Glenmorangie was my “normal” choice, with any number of others reserved for special occasions. Never was much of one for the really peaty “boutique” scotch. Laphroaig was almost undrinkable to me despite having such a glowing reputation.
