It's not exactly clear what segment of the Republican electorate is behind Newt Gingrich's surge in recent presidential primary polls, save that they aren't fans of Mitt Romney.

Gingrich isn't well regarded among established Republican types, who are fully aware of his propensity for bombast and verbal and political gaffes. Nor does it seem like he would do well with the Tea Party crowd, which is skeptical of both long service in Washington and careers in influence peddling.

West is 100% correct. Newt is so yesterday and carries so much baggage that won’t be allowed in the undercarriage of a 747 and would lose to Obama in a landslide. I hope West would join the race.

Thank you Col. West!

All you need to know is Newt’s position on illegal immigration and man made global warming.

Herman Cain is our best chance for winning the White House.

I hope West would join the race............................... Many folks in Florida wish that. You have to remember that West Murdered an innocent Iraqi civilian and was court marshalled out of the service. Not true of course, but the MSM will make it sound that way.

Ann is still cranky that Christie isn’t running, don’t you think?

I love Col West.

He is certainly entitled to state his opinion.

But perhaps he should have made the decision to run if he wanted to make a difference.

Newt has a history, and it’s no more consistently conservative than George W. Bush’s.

At times Newt is worse. Both are nearly identical on amnesty, but at least Bush signed a fence bill, Newt opposes a fence.

Bush tried to reform Fannie and Freddie, Newt took money from Freddie.

Bush never gave in fully to the AGW mania, Newt surrendered for a spell.

I just don't understand how Newt's ability to debate somehow negates all of the inside-the-Beltway nonsense Newt has immersed himself in over the last 12 years. Obama can give a good speech, too.
