“I believe in the idea of amnesty for those who have put down roots and lived here, even though sometime back they may have entered illegally,” Ronald Reagan, 1984.

Ah yes, perhaps we could get some of them to line up and step into the cattle cars and be trained to Mexico. The remainder we could toss in the cattle cars as the trains roll down the line. Hispanic free nation. How glorious. ... And just the sort of specious perspective the democrats have been convincing Hispanics that Republicans hold. You see, the left has succeeded in convincing Hispanic voters (those legal Hispanics) that conservatives want to cattle car illegals back to Mexico. You’re doing a magnificnet job of interating that spittle.

Reagan didn’t face 30 million + illegals who grow the size of government by their mere presence. Congressional representation is apportioned based on census numbers.

Here’s a little math for you. A congressional district is made up of a bit more than 660,000 people. 30 million illegals means a lot of illegitimate congressional districts.

that is the law now.

in 1996 the anchor baby was eliminated. People just confuse it with birthright citizenship.

The us citizen child of illegals goes with the deported illegal alien parents. custody follows the parents not the child.

breakup is a propaganda point of the left.

The disconnect in your post is astonishing to behold! Do you feel that approach you asserted is a winning strategy for ending illegal immigration and ending the Republican party forever? I mean, at least barry bassturd is open about his desire for class warfare. Hilter was too. So now American conservatives should take the european model for reclocating the cattle, right? Don’t you comprehend that what you’re advocating will pose Republicans and conservatives as the Stalin and Hitler and the DNC as the reuniting agency? ... Yeah, I think you do, and that’s the stealthy agenda you’re working.

Two things:

1) Reagan is not God. As much as we all loved him, he was capable of making mistakes.

2) When Reagan granted his amnesty, we weren’t nearly as overrun with illegals. Does anyone remember having to press “1” for English in the 1980s? Neither do I. Our well is nearly dry, so anyone who thinks we can still keep pulling up bucket after bucket the way we used to is kidding himself.

I suspect all you axelgreasy poseurs at FR have that evening tingle. You ought to be so proud, you’re succeeding in dividing Freerepublic freepers and crushing the wave of conservatism while establishing the media’s default nominee. Such a sucksess you are.

My point was a simple refutation of Michael Reagan’s position. His position was that illegal immigrants shouldn’t be sent back, if it means to break up the family.

I was just saying we don’t have to break them up.

It really wasn’t a position on the illegals themselves.

Well....he would have been wrong.....just as he was wrong about having no US interest in Lebanon after the Beruit barrack bombing.

Yeah, that worked out just dandy. We could have ended Hizbollah before it began. Instead we handed Islamic Jihad its first major victory against Iran's Great Satan.

It is my personal belief that no illegal should be able to create a US citizen just by birthing a baby on US soil. I also do not believe Congress should be able to grant citizenship by absolution. Congress can leagalize the illegals who want to remain here and abide by our laws. we can get that done. We can also then close the border dwon tight and deport any illegal committing any crime not addressed in the legalization law, and do it immediately upon arresting an illegal who chose to not register for leaglization. THAT IS NOT GRANTING CITIZENSHIP VIA ABSOLUTION.

Had Ted the swimmer not acanceled the enforcement provisions in the 1986 law, the solution would have arrived and our broder would not have remained open all these years. But then you knew that but it didn’t fit the pruposed deceit you’re so fond of.

It helps me understand others’ posts when people know how to spell and write. It think it might help you to take a class in writing English, as well as reading comprehension. You really have zero idea what I was talking about.

“Here’s the sick thing...if you take a conglomerate of every time the word RINO is uttered on FR...everyone is a RINO. Everyone. Reagan, Newt, Perry, Romney, Jesus Christ, everyone.
Reagan himself would probably be banished from FR if he were alive today.”
_____________________________________________________

You are right. Reagan was no Romney.
Comparing today’s America, or the world, to that of thirty years ago, is comparing apples to oranges.
“Illegal” immigration, for example, was a fraction of what it has become.

I remember a program in the mid 80s where the USDA brought Mexicans up to work in the cotton gins, as they ran circles around the traditional native workers.
Mexicans were actually welcomed in those days.
They were closely supervised, and provided special housing.

I seriously doubt that Reagan would have put up what is
taking place today.
