The third YAMATO class battleship, SHINANO, was converted into an aircraft carrier. Sunk on her maiden voyage by, I believe, USS ARCHERFISH. And if I recall, that single sinking gave ARCHERFISH the record for most tonnage sunk by a U.S sub.
