The time to oppose the "80 friend" is in the primaries, where the battles over the remaining 20% should be fought. Primaries are the proper battleground for the soul of the party.
That said, primary elections are family fights, and must not be waged so bitterly that the family cannot remain united in the general election. A kamikaze primary fight that destroys the possibility of party unity will only benefit the other party. This is why we should fight over issues alone, and not demonize our ideological opponents as "bots" and other useless pejoratives. If we cannot remain allies next November, we will lose.
I agree with you, but I worry about Freepers who demonize those who are not 100% in their camp. By all means, let’s air differences during the primaries, but let’s do so in a thoughtful and civilized way. Some Freepers seem as histrionic as lefties.
