Pro-gay activists have launched a boycott of an Iowa baker who declined to create a wedding cake for a lesbian couple based on her religious beliefs.
Victoria Childress, the owner of Victorias Cake Cottage in Des Moines, has been accused of being anti-gay, homophobic, and a bigot after she refused to make a cake for Trina Vodraska and Janelle Sievers.
Childress told Fox News & Commentary that she made five cakes for the couple to taste unaware that they were lesbians.
She introduced herself, and I said, Is this your sister? Childress said. She said, No. This is my partner.
At that point Childress told the couple that she would not be willing to make their wedding cake.
I was straight-forward with them and explained that Im a Christian and that I have very strong convictions, she said. I chose to be honest about it. They said they appreciated it and left. That was all that was said. But that wasnt the end of the story. Soon Childress began receiving hateful emails and then the local media called.
Vodraska told KCCI that she was offended by Childress. It was degrading, she told the television station. It was like she chastised us for wanting to do business with her. I know Jesus loves me. I didnt need her to tell me that. I didnt go there for that. I just wanted to go there for a cake.
The pair also released a statement, calling the Christian cake baker a bigot.

In some places lesbians are the majority. That makes them exempt from the discrimination laws. Pile it on.
I have always liked and supported the business sign: “We reserve the right to deny service to anyone.”
Theres a joke in that there comment.
Smells like fish but tastes like chicken, as they used to say in the P.I.
“(Do people ordinarily have to tell you something is a joke right after the punch line?)”
Only people I can’t see.
They could make the cake, and then they could go to another store and purchase the “Bride-Bride” thing separately.
But of course, that wouldn’t further their agenda, now would it?
lol..like Asheville North Carolina

If “anyone” disagrees with your lifestyle it is Degrading.
If you feel offended by someone you never met, it's Degrading.
Remember, it's all about “me”. Now since I feel “Degraded”, we will make it all about “you”.
Hateful, judgmental, homophobic, bigot, whatever term sticks...
You don't want to know...
Why aren’t they doing a girlcott??
If they want to eat it, it must taste like carpet....
Tho I understand what you are saying, WE have NOT lowered the bar.
And I really do not care what label they want to use because the one label that always applies to them is “Idiot”.
Others may care about labels, but I think there are enough folks are left that will just shrug, mutter “Idiot” and go on about their business.
That was my thought as well. I wonder if the lesbians were insisting that she decorate the cake with two brides and/or some other lesbian themed thing that the baker was not prepared to do.
Otherwise, I think the baker should have just offered them a plain cake and left it up to them to put whatever words or figures they wanted.
I think the law would support her refusing to decorate a cake in a way she found offensive, in the same way she might not want to produce a pro-Nazi cake. But I think she would run into problems if she just refuses flat out to offer them anything.
