ALBION, Ind. (WANE) - A Fort Wayne man died Monday while participating in a reduction hunt at Chain O'Lakes State Park. Officials say he suffered an injury to his liver that possibly happened during an encounter he had with a deer he shot.
Indiana Conservation Officers have closed the investigation into the death of Paul J. Smith, 62, after the Noble County Coroners office ruled it was due to a lacerated liver.
According to the Department of Natural Resources, Smith called his son shortly after 9 a.m. and left a message that he'd shot a buck. When Smiths son returned the called around 10:30 a.m., Smith told him that after coming down from his tree stand to field dress and tag the deer, he discovered it was still alive and that he scuffled with the animal before killing it with a knife.

I think the man was probably wishing he had put a security shot in that buck before getting out of the tree stand. I wish that he had too so that he could have enjoyed the deer that God put on this planet for man to eat.
The fact that someone shares a sentiment you don’t agree with doesn’t make them or their statement thoughtless...
I never thought about the liver being edible. I’m not normally an organ meat guy, but I’d give it a try.
Of course, if you don’t want the backstraps, I’ll gladly take those of your hands, too. :-)
Thanks for the information, FRiends!
You are SOOO mean! Why don’t you just get your meat the nice way at the store like normal people?

My son had his first girl friend over for the first time and hung out in the basement. He said the deer head hanging on the wall freaked her out. Sounds like a good litmus test from now on to me! Congratulations on your successful hunt.
If people were more familiar with the conditions of slaughterhouses and how animals are treated, then they probably wouldn’t have such a big problem with hunting. Anyone for some veal or foie gras?
If people had to survive off of what they grew in crops or the cattle/livestock they raised, they would relish the opportunity to hunt deer.
Yeah...in this case it does.
I was thinking of the same story.
Whatever...
