Sad all the way around.
The buck must have given him a hoof to the chest, and the hunter thought it was no big deal.
Would that laceration of the liver result in internal bleeding that could kill you? I don’t hear of this happening often. Seems that is the conclusion.

As he sat there under the tree in the waning moments of his life, I hope the hunter had a lot of time to think about how that deer felt as he saw this guy coming at him with a knife to finish him off.

Something to show that asshole who says “how can you call hunting a sport? It’s not like the deer ..... “

That’s why we should hunt with Claymores.

Poor guy. A good-sized buck can easily deliver a killing blow with its hooves and/or antlers. I wonder if carrying a pistol to administer a coup-de-grace is legal in deer (or other game) hunting?
RIP and prayers for the family and friends.

Last year I saw an amazing video on Animal Planet.
A man, hand extended offering food, slowly approaches a large doe.
The doe suddenly rears back, perfectly balanced on its hind legs, and delivers two or three smashing hoof punches to the guy's head.
Staggered, the guy tries to back up.
The doe charges, head down, scoops the guy up, and literally tosses him three feet straight up into the lowest branches of a tree.
Damndest thing I've ever seen.
In retrospect, it makes sense.
Deers and their relatives have been around for millions of years.
Obviously, they know how to defend themselves.
Still, a stunning surprise the first time you see it.

What’s that ‘instant karma’ sayin’ as a 200 lb buck comes crashin’ thru the windshield?

Actually, this is something his family should be proud of. I mean, dying is the ultimate homage to your chosen sport. Admittedly, most kids would prefer to say their dad got eaten by a lion or a bear or a gorilla or something, but they could make up for it by saying the deer had rabies or mad cow disease. And don't forget, there was a knife fight, so they could throw that in, too. And, if they really wanted to go that extra mile, they could put the deer and dad's head in the den.
