It is clear that Ayn Rand was not sympathetic to religious devotion, nor a believer, but this small point of the story was not related to religion.
Just my point of view.
Amen to that FRiend!!! In ‘08 me and my employees were talking about how screwed the country was gonna be because we elected 0bama...turns out we were right. One of the girls in the office sheepishly said she had voted for the Kenyan. Didn’t say anything else and that was the first time she had said anything political but that was more than enough. fired her on the spot. Let the socialists take care of ya! Would have spanked her butt if I were her mama too.
“Didnt say anything else and that was the first time she had said anything political but that was more than enough. fired her on the spot.”
Recently had a forum yelling match with 2 Freepers who went self-righteous that I should not do such things for karma’s sake. I told them to never respond to my posts EVER.
I vividly remember AT LEAST 20 Freepers who owned companies and on the night Obama won in 2008 promised to fire employees who voted for Obama, the next day most of them I caught had fired those Obama-voting employees. Those same obama idiots ruined the country and WE are the ones that should play by the effing’ rules??!
No wonder we lose elections. We stay by the rules while libs cheat and then Freepers will sermon me into praying..well, God was not listening to my prayers on election night 3 years ago.
The quotes I posted support that interpretation (and the first of those quotes has nothing to do with religion).
Oops, I broke that link - here's the correct one: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/chat/2806164/posts?page=13#13.
So do you contend that Rand was against serving in war?
"You have chosen to risk your lives for the defense of this country. I will not insult you by saying that you are dedicated to selfless service it is not a virtue in my morality. In my morality, the defense of one's country means that a man is personally unwilling to live as the conquered slave of any enemy, foreign or domestic. This is an enormous virtue." - Address To The Graduating Class Of The United States Military Academy at West Point - New York, March 6, 1974
A book is not capable of being for or against something. A few quotes in isolation can prove anything about anything. Rand did not have as her core belief this objection to self sacrifice, which is what this press release implies.
This press release is against every foundation of conservative thought as far back as you care to go.
Can you supply any evidence for your claim, as I have for the contrary position?
OK I didn’t know of that quote. Nicely dug up, sir!
I did not realize someone so otherwise intelligent would be capable of using blatant ego massaging to maintain two contradictory positions.
“the defense of one’s country means that a man is personally unwilling to live as the conquered slave of any enemy, foreign or domestic”
That’s not at all why people go to war. Americans then or now are not going to be slaves at any time as individuals, at least not in any sense that would be prevented by them going to war. Other people, 100s of years from now might be saved from slavery by their actions in maintaining US power now. But certainly not them. No one going into the army thinks they’re saving themselves from slavery.
She’s using a false device to maintain two contradictory positions - her support for America to fight in war, and this madness of anti-sacrifice, which is 100% against Christianity, and all conservative thought.
Ah. Why are the great artists always insane.
