Do they actually
think they are going to increase attendance with a name and uniform change?
They've had great talent on the field and in management during their short history and their attendance has been pathetic. It will contine to be pathetic until they move to a place which actually has a market for baseball in the summertime.
I think the stupidest thing MLB has ever done (aside from keeping Bud Selig) is to put franchises in Florida and Arizona. Arizona managed to make it moderately successful with the dry heat and in-stadium swimming pools. Florida can't do that. Most of their customer base has gone back north for the summer and they aren't going to get it back with the year-rounders.

I'd almost agree, but now that the Marlins are moving into a true dedicated baseball stadium at the former Orange Bowl site (e.g., lot easier to get to for fans in Dade County) with retractable roof to shield against summer afternoon thunderstorms, I believe attendance will be
WAY higher.
And the Marlins have the nucleus for a potentially great team, too.
