We have redtailed hawks living downtown here in Columbia SC. After eons of shunning human habitations the raptor species finally discovered that cities contain a concentrated inexhaustible food supply: pigeons and squirrels.
And size doesn’t dissuade them. I was walking through a park when I realized I was being watched; I looked up at an oak branch maybe twenty feet away and there was a hawk. His yellow eyes were fixed on me like I was his next breakfast!
Regularly, a hawk will drop down on my lovely, sweet mourning doves, content at my feeders....it’s an amzing sight to watch them drop down silently. The poor doves don’t know what hit them ;(
