I’ve been happy with Seiko.
My first Seiko was a gift from my husband in 1981, and lasted until 1995 or so. Its demise was completely my fault. My second Seiko, purchased in about 1996, is still going strong. I have avoided subjecting it to the process that killed my first watch.
A word of warning to anyone who is a bio/medical researcher out there: I killed the watch by wearing it while vortexing samples. The vibrations over a period of months eventually cracked the battery, and the acid damage was not reparable.
My Seiko is almost 30 years old and it works great. The only thing is that the case is gas filled so when the battery goes,it has to be sent back to the factory to be replaced. Last time was almost 60 bucks.
Its a diving watch but I dont dive. I was thinking about getting a cheaper one but this watch is like a old friend.
