Italian scientist claims he has achieved 'cold fusion'
The Daily Mail Online ^ | Last updated at 4:56 PM on 4th November 2011 | By Martin Robinson

Andrea Rossi says his new machine fuses nickel and hydrogen at room temperature creating almost unlimited energy .

But there is one problem - many scientists claim it defies the very laws of physics. Several high-profile demonstrations of 'cold fusion' have been proven to be hoaxes in the past - and no one can adequately explain how or why it might work .

The United States Department of Energy the U.S. Patent Office say the process is impossible because physics rules out the possibility of room-temperature nuclear fusion .

But Rossi's E-Cat machine can allegedly do it, and he says he proved it worked during tests at the University of Bologna last month .

Key: Rossi says he has produced a pattern of triple track atoms, pictured, which is at the heart of the cold fusion theory

'We have nothing to say, just to make plans that work properly and let those facts win against the scepticism.'
Sterling Allan, CEO of the alternative energy news agency Pure Energy Systems, told FoxNews.com he attended Rossi’s demonstration and the E-Cat is self sustaining .

'What Rossi demonstrated was 470 kilowatts of continuous output in self-sustain mode -- meaning the output was enough to keep the thing running on its own,' he said.

OK great, so go build a power plant and put on the grid. The world is waiting for something like this. Now that it has been proven, there is no need for anyone to beleive it or agree with it. Just go do it!

Excuse me?? "Several hoaxes in connection with cold fusion"?? I've followed CF since Pons/Fleischmann, and I've NEVER heard of any hoaxes. Difficulties in reproducibility, but actual hoaxes.......no.

Excuse me? Scientists Admit to Cold Fusion Hoax Delay

http://www.surrealscoop.com/2008/01/scientists-admit-to-cold-fusion-hoax.html

The proof of the pudding is an extended demonstration measured in days, weeks, months, and years of sustained production of energy via cold fusion, not for skeptics but to demonstrate the safety and effectiveness of cold fusion to the potential customer base.

If you want to please the "hard core skeptics" help them to replicate the technology in their labs.

I wish now for some all stainless steel SUV’s to appear on the market, if I had a HUMMER H2 I would just love to reskin it in brushed stainless.

And power it with a Mr. Fusion.

Just look at the irony of it, the much hated American super SUV, now in stainless, running on old coffee grinds and bana peels.

No charging stations, no highway taxes, its big, its bad, its a liberals worst nightmare.

As I understand it, he claims this thing is nuclear and the reaction produces gamma radiation.

Has Rossi had contact with nuclear regulators? They would be very, very interested if it did indeed work as claimed.

Here is an interesting analysis, using Rossi's data from the last demo, that shows that the real power "generated" was as little as 70KW. That small an output could be easily faked.

Of course, we have Rossi's word that it was really working, and Rossi's word that the secret company was happy with the demonstration, so if we believe Rossi, then everything is wonderful.

Of course, Rossi is a convicted criminal, and has had at least two previous "energy" inventions that he sold, but which then turned out not to work. But, as long as you disregard things like that, everything is wonderful.

THAT is supposed to be proof of something? Its a tongue-in-cheek sarcasm tweek of the hot physicists. Did you actually bother to read it or just look at the title??

Or do you just have a VERY strange sense of humor??

"Please post the source for the claim of gammas, as it is highly significant."

Mentioned all over the place in the reports of the demos and in the video commentaries on the E-Cat. I'll try to locate a few links. But it'll be a while, as I've got to take my car in for its "routine service" visit in an hour, which will probably kill the entire morning. If you want to scrounge around in the meantime, the LENR/CANR.org website has news and links to the reports. There are also copies of the reports in the "Library" section.

If you leave a 500 kWh genset running and attached to the experiment the whole time, and the experiment “produces” 470 kWh, don’t be surprised when skeptics cry foul.

I have never seen any documentation of the size of the genset. The 500 kVA figure was just one guy's wild ass guess, nothing more.

Beyond that, everyone with any experience of these things knows that just because a genset is rated X, does not mean it is producing X whenever it is running. In fact, a genset will only produce power as required by the load it is attached to.

Yes, the size of the genset was probably dictated by the initial loads associated with the preheating. So what? Why have another redundant and unnecessary power source just to placate the bystanders, the uninvolved, and the professional skeptics?

The only people that Rossi needed to be concerned about were the official observers, and you can be sure they did a complete energy accounting. Or you must assume that they were incompetent fools. BTW, no generator is rated as 500 kWh, they are rated in kVA or kW. Your lack of familiarity with the basics is on display here.

Powder..patch..ball FIRE!

IF you aren’t interested in the subject or the inventor then find another thread to squat on.

New articles are always welcome at Free Republic. Insults and deliberate hijacking of threads not so much.

The journalism is probably more important to the true believers than Rossi’s credibility, something his demos have soured beyond measure so far.

Since whether Rossi detected radiation and how is dependent on Rossi’s word junky journalism and breathless blogs seem to be the only source of information.

In 1989 Fleischmann and Pons reported that they produced excess heat via cold fusion Low-Energy Nuclear Reaction. Their experiments could not be replicated, plus flawed positive replications were withdrawn, plus Fleischmann and Pons had not actually detected nuclear reaction byproducts as previously claimed.

A hoax is a deliberately fabricated falsehood made to masquerade as truth. It is distinguishable from errors in observation or judgment.

‘just don’t click’...right you are, phoneman, nobody has to click on anything they don’t wish to read. Kevmo is merely extending to us the opportunity to keep current on this matter. Whether it be real or ultimately a hoax, it is a fascinating display of either emerging science or human behavior. I, for one, hope it is proven to be true...both for the potential benefits and to put the ‘know it all’ big science (and big grant) folks in their place. I am also prepared for it to be a disappointment to it’s most enthusiastic proponents.

If he can fuse Nickel (28Ni) and Hydrogen (1H) wouldn't he get '29' which is the Atomic # of Copper (29Cu)?

And, if he can fuse Nickel with *anything*, why waste time and just fuse the already common metals of Copper (29Cu) with Tin (50Sn) and get... GOLD (79Au)! He'd be a real Goldfinger and could rule the world.

Plus he's pulling a scam. I already tried fusing Nickel and Hydrogen and it doesn't work. I know, I've been building a Cold Fusion Reactor in my garage for years now. And his elements were some of the first things I tried. All that did was pop my circuit breaker.

“Kevmo is merely extending to us the opportunity to keep current on this matter.”

No, he is not. He is spamming FFR with blogs posts and other nonsense that he posts in the “News” section. This is a scam and Kevmo has INTRADE.com and probably other personal interests. It is news to post about legitimate news articles. He posts 1-4 blogs posts and other non-news items every single day. That is spamming, not reporting.

“nobody has to click on anything they don’t wish to read.”

Sure, but his thread titles still are read as they are in the Articles and Comments listings. If he doesn’t like our comments then he can simply stop posting the threads. That is how FR works, someone posts a thread and others comment. Telling people to simply not post on the threads is a liberal tactic.

If I lived in a time before steam engines were invented and I attended a public debate on the feasibility of something called railroads and there were long discussions of torgue and track gauges I would stand up and ask: “I can’t follow the science, but can you please tell me when I can expect train service between New York and Philadelphia?”

Well, I can’t follow the science, but can you please tell me when my toaster will be powered by a cold-fusion electric generator?

Commercial success talks. Bullish!t walks.
