This comment struck a nerve with me. FOX & Fs once teased something I wanted to see with the infamous “after the break” phrase. I waited through the ‘top of the hour’ commercials, risking being late for work, to see it.
When they came back the first story was about something else. Ok, well my story must be the next one. Right? No.
It went on like that for 20 minutes until I finally realized they weren’t going to show the story I wanted at all.
It hit me that in Fox-speak, the term ‘after the break’ just means ‘at some time generally after this time’.
Technically, any time at all is ‘after the break’.
I don’t pay attention to Fox teasers anymore. If they tease something I am interested in, I just look it up independently instead of waiting for them to finally, eventually, get around to actually showing the story.
