That's fine with Scotch, which is a smooth, more-or-less delicate potation. American whisky, on the other hand, has a powerful flavor that doesn't get lost when it's mixed. I find bourbon and cola to be an especially appealing combination; the two seem to mesh really well.
My wife likes Crown Royal with a cola too. I like Johnnie Walker red label scotch.
